Åsbackaskolan is located in Örebro and offers education from preschool class through grade 10 for students with congenital deafblindness and students who are deaf or have hearing loss combined with intellectual disabilities. Our staff are fluent in sign language with high specialized expertise regarding our target groups' needs. We offer residential facilities for students who cannot commute to school daily. Åsbackaskolan accepts students from throughout Sweden who are deaf or have hearing loss combined with intellectual disabilities, or are deafblind, and who follow the adapted primary school curriculum with a focus on subject areas. We provide our students with an environment that offers opportunities for participation and development. Everyone can participate in social interaction, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in bilingual education within a sign language environment. At Åsbackaskolan, we believe that development and learning occur in all environments and during all hours of the day from a lifelong learning perspective. Our overall goal is to provide all our students with the conditions to learn and to live as independently as possible. We place great emphasis on developing students' desire and willingness for social interaction, engagement, and communication in a sign language environment. Instruction is tailored to each student's individual conditions and needs. We use experience-based learning as our pedagogical method. At Åsbackaskolan, we have excellent access to various professionals in our student health team and digital learning tools in a well-equipped IT environment. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Work as a teaching assistant requires great ability to be, for example, attentive and flexible. You should be able to meet students in various situations and may need to provide a helping hand during their school day and leisure time. Complex and challenging situations may arise where, with your calm demeanor as a teaching assistant, you provide the student with a secure and supportive reception. As a teaching assistant, you will be part of a work team with teachers, and together with them you will plan the students' school days, which may include instruction outside the school premises. This position is a fixed-term assignment. Service may occur at other specialized schools in Örebro. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has: • Education from a child and youth program, assistant training, or other equivalent competence • Education and/or experience working with students with neuropsychiatric disabilities, low-arousal approaches, intellectual disabilities, and students who are deafblind A prerequisite for working with us is that you can speak Swedish Sign Language, as our sign language environment is very important. You must be familiar with the IT programs commonly used in schools. It is advantageous if you: • have experience collaborating and being a complement within a work team • have a solution-focused approach that is also engaging, guiding, and motivating The school also has residential facilities for certain students, which means there are requirements for collaboration skills with both staff at the student residence and other professional groups connected to the student's school day. The school has access to interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, so experience and knowledge in handling such tools is advantageous.
