The Department of Preschool and Primary Education is one of Varberg Municipality's largest departments with nearly 2,200 employees. Within our areas of activity – preschool, primary school, and child and student well-being – we are here for children and students – together we shape the future.
The department's central office is located in the heart of Varberg, within a convenient walking distance from the train station. Here we work close to operations and have an important role in ensuring order, transparency, and quality in the department's processes.

WORK DUTIES
As an economist with us, you get an assignment that ultimately is about creating good conditions for children's futures and the best possible learning experience. By ensuring sound finances, you contribute to resources reaching where they are of greatest benefit to our operations.
You work from our office in central Varberg and become part of a professional economics team that supports each other to contribute to structure, transparency, and quality in the department's processes.
We offer a workplace where numbers and analysis meet a meaningful day close to operations. As qualified support to principals and managers, you combine operational initiatives with an analytical perspective to ensure that our resources are used effectively.
Main duties:
• Responsibility for budget, forecast, follow-up, and financial statements within the department's operations.
• Conduct economic analyses and investigations that provide managers with stable and quality-assured decision-making support.
• Function as an advisory link between economics and pedagogical operations by providing educational economics support to principals and managers.
• Actively participate in developing the department's economic processes, routines, and working methods for a transparent organization.
• Collaborate with colleagues in HR and administration to create coherence and high quality in administrative support.
QUALIFICATIONS
To thrive in the role of economist with us, you have a solution-focused drive and the ability to see the big picture without losing the details. You are a confident professional who, with warmth and clarity, provides guidance and makes economic information understandable and useful for our managers. For you, collaboration with other professions is a prerequisite for success; you work pragmatically to achieve our common goals together with operations management.
You have a structured working method and confidence in independently prioritizing your tasks, even during periods of higher workload such as during financial closings. You show judgment in your analyses and act as stable support in the department's economic processes.
We place great emphasis on you having genuine commitment to your assignment and that your personality and drives match our culture and values.
We are looking for you who:
• Have a university degree in economics (minimum 180 credits) or equivalent education that we consider equivalent.
• Have experience with qualified economic work with good knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
• Have very good knowledge of Excel and experience working in modern operations systems.
• Can express yourself simply, clearly, and correctly in both speech and writing.
It is meritorious if you have:
• Experience from work in a politically governed organization.
• Experience with operations systems such as Hypergene or Proceedo.
• Previous experience providing educational economics support to managers and management groups.
Salary form: Monthly salary.

Duration: Permanent, start: 2026-09-07. Start date by agreement.
