About BalticWaters Fish Lab
Protecting the Baltic Sea ecosystem, biodiversity, and natural resources is more important than ever. BalticWaters Fish Laboratory at Studsvik Tech Park outside Nyköping is a research-oriented workplace where we develop new knowledge about Baltic Sea fish, from egg to adult fish. The laboratory is built around recirculating aquatic systems and makes it possible to conduct applied experiments and research that can contribute to important environmental initiatives and provide concrete knowledge for a healthier Baltic Sea.
Your Responsibilities
As an operations technician at BalticWaters Fish Lab, you will play a central role in managing our recirculating aquatic systems (RAS). Your daily tasks include maintenance of system components, adapting systems to different research projects, continuous monitoring and adjustment of water parameters, and regular cleaning. You will work closely with project personnel to meet project needs and contribute to a good environment for the fish. The work requires problem-solving, careful documentation, and active participation in all aspects of laboratory operations. Since we are a small team, all employees need to be prepared to help where needed, from practical operations and troubleshooting to routine work and follow-up. This makes the work both varied and responsible.
Your Qualities
We are looking for someone with basic biological knowledge and a practical interest in fish, aquatic environments, and aquatic systems. You are solution-oriented, meticulous, and take responsibility even when circumstances change. You enjoy practical work, are not afraid to get your hands dirty, and are comfortable working closely with others in a small team. Experience from land-based RAS systems, fish farming, animal husbandry, laboratory animal facilities, or water treatment is an advantage, but not a requirement. All RAS systems are unique, and we will therefore provide you with relevant introduction and training on our systems. The most important thing is that you understand that the work is governed by biological conditions and have the willingness to learn in a research-oriented environment.

About the Position
This is a 12-month contract position while one of our employees is on parental leave, and we hope you can start on December 1st, 2026.
The work is full-time, but the workload varies over time because the laboratory's operations are governed by the fish's biology, the phases of research projects, and the systems' needs. This means that some periods can be intensive and require work in the evenings, on weekends, or with short notice, while other periods have lower demand. On-call duty is included and will be scheduled in coordination with the laboratory's operations manager, who will also be your supervisor. A valid driver's license (category B) is required, and you should be able to speak and write English without difficulty.

We implement environmental projects and conduct applied research to demonstrate what measures can contribute to a healthy and thriving sea. Our work also includes disseminating knowledge about the state of the Baltic Sea to the public, authorities, and decision-makers. The goal is to increase knowledge about the challenges the sea faces and build public opinion so that decisions are made and measures are implemented.
