Duties
Doctoral education comprises four years of full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree.
Within the framework of your doctoral employment, you may undertake institutional duties comprising a maximum of 20% of full-time work distributed throughout the entire study period, which will result in a corresponding extension of the study period. Institutional duties typically include teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels, but may also include research and administration.
Doctoral studies are conducted through an employment arrangement, and you are required to be at the workplace during normal working hours, unless otherwise agreed in advance with the employer or due to illness. Admission and Employment
Once you have been admitted to doctoral education, you will receive a doctoral employment position at Gothenburg University.
The initial doctoral employment may last at most one year and may be renewed for at most two years at a time.
A doctoral student may be employed as a doctoral student for a maximum of eight years, but the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years.
Start date: January 18, 2027.
Doctoral education at HDK-Valand requires physical presence in Gothenburg to complete the studies.
If the admitted person requires a residence permit to conduct studies in Sweden, HDK-Valand has the right to withdraw the admission decision if the admitted person cannot present a valid residence permit on the study start date.

Once you have been admitted to doctoral education, you will receive a doctoral employment position at Gothenburg University.
The university applies local agreements regarding doctoral student salaries. The starting salary for doctoral students at the Faculty of Arts is currently 32,300 kr/month.
Applications must be received by the university no later than August 5 at 24.00 Swedish time.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is complete according to the job listing and that the university receives it by the final application deadline.
