PhD Student in Medical Science—Neuroscience with a focus on stroke care organization and improved diagnostics and clinical workflow in acute ischemic stroke. Description of the Workplace The doctoral project will be conducted within neuroscience. The research group is led by Associate Professor Teresa Ullberg and conducts clinical research with a focus on stroke, with particular emphasis on acute ischemic stroke, diagnostics, and organization of stroke care. The group maintains close and established collaboration with Lund Stroke Imaging Group, led by Associate Professor Johan Wassélius. The research environment is interdisciplinary and based on close collaboration between neurology and radiology, with particular focus on developing and evaluating diagnostic methods and clinical workflows in stroke care. The group collectively supervises approximately ten doctoral students and has a well-established infrastructure for doctoral training, supervision, research meetings, and seminar activities. The PhD student will be part of an active and multidisciplinary research environment with access to established supervisory expertise and regular seminar and research activities. Duties and Responsibilities As a PhD student, you will primarily conduct doctoral training through independent research work under supervision within the project "Prevalence, treatment, radiological and organizational aspects of acute ischemic stroke with vessel occlusion." The research is focused on stroke care organization and improved diagnostics and clinical workflow in acute ischemic stroke. The project will be conducted through a series of clinical research studies and has a clear connection to specialized stroke services and neurointerventional services. The PhD student will analyze and process large amounts of research data, interpret and evaluate results, and, as part of doctoral training, participate in writing and publishing scientific manuscripts. The PhD student will also have the opportunity to actively participate in national and international scientific conferences and present their own research results. The PhD student's primary duty is to conduct doctoral training through independent research work under supervision within the project "Prevalence, treatment, radiological and organizational aspects of acute ischemic stroke with vessel occlusion." Qualifications Required for Employment Medical degree or other relevant academic education in medicine or a related biomedical field, or alternatively, student in the medical program. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written. Good knowledge of data analysis and statistics, and experience working with large datasets. Ability to structure, process, and analyze research data under supervision, and to document and present scientific results. Meticulous, analytical, and responsible. Meritorious Completed courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, research methodology, or equivalent. Education or experience in medicine with a focus on neurology, neuroradiology, or stroke. Research experience, particularly in clinical research and registry-based research. Experience in quality register research and work with large datasets (big data). Experience in statistical analysis and use of relevant statistical software. Experience in medical imaging and basic review of brain computed tomography. Great value is placed on personal qualities and ability to collaborate within a research group. Basic Eligibility Basic eligibility for education at the research level is required, which means: a degree at an advanced level, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. Terms The position is a fixed-term full-time employment as a PhD student for four years (48 months), in accordance with HF 5 chapter 7§. Start date is planned for November 1, 2026, or by agreement.
