GIH hereby announces a doctoral position in the subject of sport science within the field of running biomechanics. Project Description: The project aims to increase understanding of how running shoes with so-called Advanced Footwear Technology (AFT, or "super shoes") affect the runner's performance and injury mechanisms at the individual level. Using advanced biomechanical methods, the shoe's effect on the dynamic function of the foot and lower extremity during running will be calculated and possibilities for individual shoe customization will be explored. Eligibility for Doctoral Level Education To be admitted to doctoral level education in sport science, the applicant must have: completed a degree at the advanced level, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country acquired equivalent knowledge the ability otherwise needed to complete the education. A secondary school grade equivalent to English 6 is a basic requirement. For applicants who do not have grades from a Swedish secondary school, a certificate of eligibility equivalent to English 6 from an internationally recognized language test is required (TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (The International English Language Testing System), or Cambridge ESOL (English Language Assessment)) in accordance with requirements on antagning.se: https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/All-you-need-to-know1/Applying-for-studies/English-requirements/. Any exceptions from the requirement for a certificate are regulated at http://www.universityadmissions.se. Applicants with a master's degree from an English-language university or program do not need to provide proof of an English language test. The basic eligibility must be fulfilled at the time of admission to doctoral education, no later than August 31, 2026. A copy of the degree certificate must be attached in the original language and in an English translation by an authorized translator (does not apply to Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, English). Selection Selection among applicants is made with regard to the ability to benefit from doctoral level education. An important assessment criterion is the focus of credits at the advanced level and the quality of independent work at the advanced level. The assessment is based on the following established criteria: familiarity with prerequisite knowledge relevant to the dissertation subject within the area of sport, physical activity and health, with emphasis on running biomechanics, theoretical awareness and familiarity with adequate methods, analytical ability, ability for critical thinking and problem formulation, written and oral communicative ability, and familiarity with ethical issues. For this doctoral position, the following are also considered: extensive experience with data analysis and programming, and thus experience with software such as SPSS, QTM, Visual 3D, Theia, machine learning, Matlab and Python. knowledge in mathematics, physics or equivalent as required for understanding the biomechanics relevant to the project. personal suitability for the position, such as commitment, efficiency, accuracy, responsibility and ability to structure work and meet deadlines, as well as organize and work in groups in a laboratory environment. practical experience from conducting data collection in research projects within biomechanics using methods such as treadmill with 3D force measurement, force plates, motion analysis systems, strength measurement, IMU and taking initiative for new methods. experience from applying research data to sport through, e.g., collaboration with sports federations, etc. experience from scientific writing and publishing in peer-reviewed international scientific journals. Provisions for employment as a doctoral candidate can be found in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Only those admitted to doctoral level education may be employed as a doctoral candidate.
