The Department of Ecology, Environment and Botany (DEEP) conducts research and education at the Arrhenius Laboratories on the Frescati campus. We are approximately 100 employees, including PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, distributed across 25 research groups. More information about us is available at: Department of Ecology, Environment and Botany. Project Description The doctoral work will be conducted within the project "Epigenetic basis of reproductive thermotolerance". The project focuses on how epigenetic regulation contributes to reproductive heat tolerance in plants. The PhD student will use molecular approaches to study plant fertility and development under heat stress. Eligibility Requirements To be admitted to doctoral education, the applicant must have basic and specific eligibility. The eligibility must be fulfilled by the last application deadline. You have basic eligibility if you have completed an advanced level degree, or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp at advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. For specific eligibility to be admitted to doctoral education in plant physiology, the applicant must have at least 120 hp in molecular biology, biology, chemistry or equivalent at basic level and at least 60 hp at advanced level in plant physiology or equivalent, of which at least 30 hp must consist of an independent thesis. Selection Selection among applicants is made based on the ability to benefit from doctoral education. Criteria used to assess this ability are: Knowledge and experience within a relevant research area, such as plant reproduction, stress biology, plant genetics or epigenetics. Experience with at least one of the following methods: microscopy, epigenome analysis, molecular biological techniques or work with Arabidopsis. documented subject knowledge relevant to the research area analytical and creative thinking own initiative independence cooperative ability good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English.
