Prioritized research areas within the department include Sports Education, Leadership, Organization and Working Life, Education in a Digital World, Didactics, Educational History and Assessment, Special Education, and Gender and Educational Processes in Society. The department offers a broad range of educational programs and participates in several programs, including Teacher Education Programs, the Sports Science Program, the Personnel Management Program, the Behavioral Science Program with a focus on IT Environments, and Police Education. Focus of the PhD Position The PhD position is in Education, with a focus on AI in teacher education. The position will be located at Umeå University, Department of Education, and will be connected to research within the areas of Didactics, Educational History and Assessment, and Education in a Digital World. The PhD position is being advertised in collaboration with FU (Graduate School in the Educational Science Field), which provides a cohesive environment for doctoral education in the educational science field at Umeå University. Through FU, the PhD student will be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary doctoral community and will have access to national and international research networks. As a PhD student in the graduate school, the student will contribute to knowledge development in the field, benefiting researchers as well as teachers and other educational professionals. The PhD position is being advertised in collaboration with the national graduate school GRAITE (Graduate School for Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education). GRAITE's mission is to create knowledge about how AI affects teacher education and the teaching profession. The successful applicant will be affiliated with GRAITE. The PhD project should address AI in teacher education. Central research questions can range from the policy level to being practice-oriented. This may include studies addressing organizational and leadership perspectives as well as studies of teacher educators' teaching practices and student teachers' learning with AI. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a PhD student, both general and specific eligibility requirements must be met. General eligibility is held by a person who a) has completed a degree at an advanced level, or b) has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level, or c) has in some way acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country (HF 7 ch. 39). To meet the specific eligibility requirement for admission to doctoral education in Education, the applicant must have basic higher education in Education of at least 90 higher education credits and a) has completed a degree at an advanced level in Education, or b) has 60 higher education credits at an advanced level in Education, or c) other equivalent education of relevance, with equivalent scope and depth. The requirements are considered fulfilled by a person who in some other way, within or outside the country, has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. In the selection among eligible applicants, primary consideration will be given to: • ability to benefit from the education, • previous academic results, and • the quality of the submitted research plan in relation to the focus of the advertised PhD position The following assessment criteria are applied when evaluating the ability to benefit from the education: • analytical ability, • high written and oral proficiency in both Swedish and English • critical thinking skills, • independence, and • performance within given timeframes.
