Örebro University is seeking a PhD student for doctoral-level education leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medical Science at the Department of Health Sciences, with program start in Fall 2026. Project Description DISASTER-CARE is Sweden's first national research school in disaster medicine – an area of growing importance in today's society, characterized by global crises and a changed international security situation. The initiative is financed by the Swedish Research Council. The research school is coordinated by the University of Gothenburg and conducted in close collaboration between several of Sweden's leading institutions in disaster medicine. It is aimed at you who, after completing your education, will work as a teacher in health and medical education with a focus on disaster medicine and crisis preparedness. As a PhD student in DISASTER-CARE, you will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment where medicine, nursing science, technology, and social sciences meet. You will have access to a strong national context with PhD students and teachers from across the country, as well as international opportunities through collaborations, guest lectures, and participation in conferences and research environments. You will follow the general study plan for PhD students in Medical Science at Örebro University in parallel with mandatory and elective courses in the research school. Both quantitative and qualitative studies will be included in the dissertation. The exact design and focus of the project will be determined in consultation with the PhD student. As a PhD student, you will be supervised by Karin Hugelius (main supervisor). You will also receive supervision from co-supervisors from Örebro University and from another institution within the research school. Education and Employment Doctoral education consists of courses and independent research work that you will present in a doctoral dissertation. The education is intended to be completed with a doctorate degree. The education comprises 240 higher education credits, which corresponds to four years of full-time studies. Our ambition is for your doctoral-level education to be stimulating and meaningful from the start all the way to your doctorate degree. Receiving a good introduction as a PhD student facilitates the start of your studies and provides you with a solid foundation for your doctoral education. As a PhD student at Örebro University, you are offered a specially tailored seminar series covering everything from education regulations and career development to support in your study situation and doctoral student networking. Connected to the education position is a full-time PhD student employment during the education period, which corresponds to four years. The starting salary for PhD student employment is 32,300 kr per month. Teaching at the Department of Health Sciences up to a maximum of 20% of full-time may be included in the position, which in that case extends the education period accordingly.
