The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is one of five faculties at Linnaeus University. We conduct education, research and collaboration within health, care and natural science. The Department of Medicine and Optometry conducts research and teaching in eHealth, medicine and optometry with a total of 24 employees. Furthermore, eHälsoinstitutet conducts master's programs, independent courses and commissioned training in eHealth. Start date: By agreement Job Description We are looking for an ambitious and motivated PhD student with a strong interest in eHealth and digital health services, AI including large language models, as well as working interdisciplinarily. The PhD position is part of https://lnu.se/mot-linneuniversitetet/samarbeta-med-oss/Projekt-och-natverk/samverkan-e-halsa/, a long-term collaboration between Linnaeus University and Region Kalmar County to strengthen the development of eHealth regionally, nationally and internationally. The purpose of this collaboration is to establish a strong research and education environment in eHealth that can create continued important development of eHealth within health and medical care. The PhD student will be part of building the research environment within this collaboration project and will be part of https://lnu.se/forskning/forskarutbildning/forskarskolan-i-halsoinformatik-och-ehalsa/. The PhD student is expected to: Follow their individual study plan, participate in mandatory courses and seminars, and continuously report progress to their supervisor and department Plan, conduct and publish scientific studies within the project framework, in close collaboration with supervisor and research group Participate actively in the interdisciplinary research environment at eHälsoinstitutet and within the eHealth collaboration Apply and further develop competence in quantitative and qualitative analysis methods and, where relevant, AI-based methods Conduct data collection, which may include qualitative interviews with patients or healthcare personnel Present research at national and international conferences Participate actively in the doctoral school in eHealth, which constitutes a central academic and social community for PhD students within the field Contribute to teaching, supervision and administration up to 20% of working time, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance The Higher Education Ordinance states that a person employed as a PhD student shall primarily devote themselves to their own education. However, an employee may, to a limited extent, work with education, research and administration. Such work may not, before a doctoral degree has been obtained, exceed 20% of full-time work. The PhD position can be combined with other employment (clinical or in industry). Qualification Requirements To be admitted to education at the research level, it is required according to the Higher Education Ordinance (7 chap § 35) that the applicant has basic eligibility and any special eligibility that the institution may have prescribed, and is assessed to have the ability otherwise needed to benefit from the education. Basic eligibility is held by those who have completed a degree at advanced level have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country acquired substantially equivalent knowledge Special eligibility is held by those who have good knowledge of Swedish, or the ability to acquire Swedish within one year, since qualitative interviews with Swedish patients and healthcare personnel may be part of the work tasks good knowledge of English in speech and writing Desirable/meriting is if the applicant has previous documented experience of research in eHealth, digital health or related field experience with or documented interest in machine learning, AI methods or large language models (LLM) in clinical or health-related contexts background in health science, medicine, psychology, informatics, biomedical engineering, data science or similar discipline relevant to interdisciplinary eHealth research clinical experience from health and medical care scientific publishing Assessment Criteria The assessment criteria concern the examination of the applicant's ability to complete doctoral education. During the assessment, emphasis will be placed on the candidate's motivation, potential to complete doctoral education and personal suitability for the position. The candidate must be structured and able to work effectively both individually and in teams.
