Department of Clinical Sciences The University Animal Hospital is seeking an Animal Care Level 2 professional for equine or a licensed veterinary technician with strong horse experience for an evening shift temporary position. About the Job You will primarily work on the care ward. Your responsibilities will include receiving acute patients, administering medications, caring for and providing nursing care to horses, and assisting veterinarians with examinations and treatments. During your employment at UDS, you will mentor future veterinary technicians and veterinarians, as well as interns from agricultural high schools. You will work in a dynamic world with clinical challenges at the forefront of research. Duties are primarily scheduled for evening hours, but other shift times may occur. All employees at the equine clinic work under a list service agreement, which means work may be scheduled at any time of day or night. Your Background We are looking for someone who is an Animal Care Level 2 professional for equine or a licensed veterinary technician. Strong horse experience is a requirement. A couple of years of work experience in animal health care at an animal hospital is a merit. Interest or experience in anesthesia is also a merit. As a person, you are organized, structured, motivated, able to handle occasionally stressful situations, and have integrity. You have good communication and social skills and understand the importance of maintaining good client relations and treating animal owners professionally. You are a good team player and prioritize the equine clinic's overall operations above your own unit's interests. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. About Us The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research, and graduate education in anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, animal nursing, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Our activities span all animal species in all these areas. At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced animal health care go hand in hand. We train tomorrow's veterinarians and veterinary technicians and provide first-class care to companion animals, sport animals, and production animals. We also share knowledge with the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of animal health care. Under one roof, we offer health care for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. The equine department receives approximately 5,000 horses annually. We currently have about 50 employees and are part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, which has approximately 350 employees. The department currently has three units: a clinic with orthopedic and medical cases, farrier services, and specialist consultations in respiratory, dentistry, dermatology, and ophthalmology; a care unit with both surgical and medical patients; and an operating unit with both planned and emergency surgeries.
