Department of Clinical Sciences The University Animal Hospital and equine department are seeking experienced horse handlers to work as animal nurses and animal care attendants in hourly positions. About the Job Duties vary depending on your education and prior experience. Stable Hand: cleaning stalls, feeding, washing dishes, cleaning, laundering, etc. As a stable hand, you will primarily work morning shifts. Nurse: administering medication, feeding, caring for hospitalized patients, receiving emergency patients, answering phones, assisting veterinarians, cleaning, washing dishes, cleaning stalls, etc. When you begin your hourly position with us, you will always receive thorough job orientation and strong support from experienced and generous colleagues. During your employment in the equine department, you will mentor future animal nurses and veterinarians, as well as interns from agricultural secondary schools. Work is scheduled around the clock. Your Background We are looking for animal care attendants level 1 or 2 for equines, licensed animal nurses, or provisional animal nurses. Strong horse handling experience is required. Experience working with equine veterinary care at an animal hospital is a plus. As a person, you are organized, structured, motivated, and have integrity. You have good communication and social skills and understand the importance of maintaining good client relationships and treating animal owners in a professional manner. You are a good team player and prioritize the horse clinic's overall operations over your own unit. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. About Us The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research, and research education in anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, animal care, epidemiology, laboratory animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, internal medicine, and reproduction. Our activities span all animal species in all these areas. At SLU University Animal Hospital (UDS), education, research, and advanced veterinary care work hand in hand. We educate tomorrow's veterinarians and animal nurses and provide first-class care to companion animals, competition animals, and production animals. We also share knowledge with the public. By combining established knowledge with the latest research results, we develop the future of veterinary care. Under one roof, we offer care for horses, dogs, cats, and other small animals. In addition to modern, purpose-built facilities, we have access to advanced diagnostic imaging and a veterinary medical specialist laboratory. UDS operations also include an ambulatory unit that travels to stables and farms to examine and treat horses and farm animals. The equine clinic has approximately 50 staff members and receives about 5,000 horses annually. The clinic currently has three departments: Outpatient clinic with orthopedic cases, farrier services, and specialist consultations in respiratory, dental, dermatology, and ophthalmology. Inpatient ward with both surgical and medical patients. And an operating department with both planned and emergency surgeries.
