Do you want to create safety, security, and care for those who live and spend time in our area? The Rescue Service in Strängnäs municipality works with two areas: operational activities (emergency response/training/equipment maintenance) and prevention activities (inspection/education/advisory). Together we work toward two overarching goals: to reduce the risk of fires and other accidents occurring, and to ensure that damage is limited when accidents do happen. We shall provide our residents with a safe and secure municipality in which to live and work. Operational activities are organized with both full-time and on-call (RIB) personnel. Together we have broad expertise that is often very important and valuable for various types of rescue operations. Prevention activities work to promote good fire protection and measures that prevent and avoid accidents in society. We are seeking rescue personnel on call for the Rescue Service operations in Strängnäs/Mariefried and in Åkers Styckebruk. As on-call rescue personnel (RiB), you have an assignment alongside your regular work and respond to alarms in the area where you live and work. You will become part of a work team that together is responsible for carrying out rescue operations and contributing to public safety. 10 position(s). DUTIES Being on-call rescue personnel means you live/work and go about your daily life as usual, but during certain weeks you are on call. This means you must be able to respond when the alarm sounds, regardless of the time of day. When you are on call, you carry a pager and must be able to reach the fire station within 6 minutes in Mariefred/Åkers Styckebruk and within 10 minutes in Strängnäs. From there you travel with your colleagues to various rescue operations. This might involve fires in buildings, vehicles, forests, or open land. You might also encounter traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical cases where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other situations where people need help quickly. Your task is to work together with your colleagues to create safety, help those affected, and limit damage as much as possible. Between alarms, you train and develop your skills regularly. You will become part of a group where cooperation, responsibility, and trust are essential. About the assignment: • On-call duty according to schedule, typically every third or fourth week. • An on-call week is 168 hours (24/7 for seven days) • Opportunity to swap on-call shifts with colleagues if needed • You are based at a fire station in Strängnäs, Mariefred, or Åkers Styckebruk • You participate in training approximately 3 hours per week, usually in the evenings during your on-call week Important to know! • The part-time firefighter role is a secondary occupation and cannot be a full-time position • You have another primary employer or other primary occupation • You have the ability to leave your primary occupation immediately when an alarm sounds • You are expected to maintain good physical fitness to perform the role • We conduct annual medical examinations and offer PSA testing for employees over 50 years of age. • We conduct alcohol tests for all personnel. We are recruiting over the coming 8 months and filling positions on an ongoing basis. We strive for increased gender equality and therefore welcome applications from female candidates. QUALIFICATIONS You do not need previous professional firefighting experience; the required training will be provided by us during your employment. Instead, we look for various qualities and personal characteristics that are important in the complex work of firefighting. What is required is that you have: • very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. • a driver's license, at least class B, and good driving ability. • swimming proficiency (Swedish Lifesaving Society's Gold Badge). • good physical fitness and health (for example, you must be able to pass a treadmill test with equipment at 4.5km/h). You must live and work in a location that allows you to reach the fire station within 6 and 10 minutes respectively when on call. Previous experience from the rescue service, healthcare, or other operational activities is a merit but not a requirement. Your personal qualities are important to us and we will place great emphasis on them. You have your heart in the right place with the attitude of helping your fellow citizens. You are communicative with a strong ability to collaborate with others and possess personal maturity with good self-awareness. Your ability to work systematically in high-pressure situations and in various environments makes you a valued team member. What does being a firefighter give you? • challenging and socially beneficial work tasks. • favorable employment terms including a wellness allowance. • pension contributions. • training for the job (initially a three-week preparatory training course). • annual health check with a doctor and fitness testing. • if you do not already have a C-class driver's license, we finance your training for this up to a maximum amount. • regular training and continuous professional development • varied and socially important assignments • compensation according to the current collective agreement for on-call rescue personnel (RiB) • access to training and gym facilities 24/7 • work clothes and equipment (uniform) This also gives you the opportunity for continued development and a career within the rescue service.
