We are now recruiting rescue service personnel on standby – at Rescue Service Mälardalen in Surahammar!
Description
We are seeking part-time firefighters for Rescue Service Mälardalen's operations in Surahammar!
As rescue service personnel on standby (RiB), you have an assignment alongside your regular work and respond to emergency calls in the area where you live and work. You will be part of a work team that together is responsible for carrying out rescue operations and contributing to community safety.
About the Work
Being a part-time firefighter means you live and work your regular daily life as usual, but during certain weeks you are on standby. This means you must be able to respond when the alarm sounds – regardless of time of day or night.
When you are on standby, you carry a pager and must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes. From there, you travel with your colleagues on various rescue operations.
This can involve fires in buildings, vehicles, or in forests and fields. You may also encounter traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical emergencies where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other situations where people need help quickly.
Your task is to work together with your colleagues to create safety, help those affected, and limit damage as much as possible.
Between emergency calls, you regularly train and educate yourselves. You become part of a group where cooperation, responsibility, and trust are decisive.
About the Assignment
Standby according to schedule, typically every third or fourth week. A standby week is 168 hours (24/7 for seven days)
Opportunity to swap standby shifts with colleagues as needed
You are based at the fire station in Surahammar
You participate in exercises approximately 3 hours per week, usually in the evening during your standby week
Qualifications
We are looking for you if you:
Are at least 18 years old
Hold a driver's license, minimum category B
Have good physical fitness and health (you must pass a treadmill test with equipment at 4.5 km/h)
Meet swimming requirements with certification (Swedish Royal Life Saving Society's "Guldbojen")
Can remain calm and make decisions under pressure
Have good teamwork abilities
You must live and work in such a way that you can reach the fire station within 5 minutes when on standby.
Previous experience from rescue services, healthcare, or other operational activities is meritorious but not required. We provide all the training necessary to become a part-time firefighter.
Important to Know
The part-time firefighter assignment is a secondary occupation and cannot be a full-time position. You have another primary employer or other primary occupation.
