We are now recruiting emergency response personnel on standby – join Räddningstjänsten Mälardalen in Hallstahammar/Kolbäck!
Description
We are seeking part-time firefighters for Räddningstjänsten Mälardalen's operations in Hallstahammar/Kolbäck, based at the new Eriksberg fire station!
As an on-call emergency responder (RiB), you take on this role alongside your primary employment and respond to alarms in the area where you live and work. You become part of a team that together performs rescue operations and contributes to community safety.
About the Work
Being a part-time firefighter means you live, work, and go about your daily life as usual, but during certain weeks you are on standby. This means you must be able to respond when an alarm is triggered – regardless of the time of day.
When you are on standby, you carry a pager and must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes. From there, you travel with your colleagues to various rescue operations.
This may involve fires in buildings, vehicles, or in forests and fields. You may also respond to traffic accidents, automatic alarms, acute medical emergencies where you provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance, or other situations where people need help quickly.
Your task, together with your colleagues, is to create safety, help those in need, and limit damage as much as possible.
Between alarms, you train and practice regularly. You become part of a group where collaboration, responsibility, and trust are essential.
About the Position
Standby duty according to schedule, typically every third or fourth week. A standby week is 168 hours (24 hours a day for seven days)
Opportunity to exchange standby shifts with colleagues if needed
You work from Eriksberg fire station (between Hallstahammar and Kolbäck)
You participate in training approximately 3 hours per week, usually in the evenings during your standby week
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
Is at least 18 years old
Holds a driver's license with at least B-class certification
Has good physical fitness and health (including passing a treadmill test with equipment at 4.5km/h) Meets swimming requirements with certification (Swedish Life-Saving Society's "Guldbojen")
Can remain calm and make decisions in high-pressure situations
Has strong teamwork and collaboration skills
You must live and work in a location that allows you to reach the fire station within 5 minutes when on standby.
Previous experience from emergency services, healthcare, or other operational activities is a merit but not required. We provide all the training needed to become a part-time firefighter.
Important to Know
The role of part-time firefighter is a secondary position and cannot be a full-time employment. You have another primary employer or primary occupation.
You must be able to leave your primary position immediately when an alarm is triggered.
You are expected to maintain good physical condition to perform the role.
We conduct annual medical examinations and offer PSA testing for employees over 50 years old.
We conduct alcohol testing for all personnel.
We are recruiting over the next 6 months and filling positions on an ongoing basis.
