Our research concerns topics such as political institutions, elections, public opinion and democracy, international and European politics, environmental policy, corruption, and political ideas. We organize a large number of research seminars and workshops annually within the department's various research areas. We offer education at all levels in both Swedish and English. More information about the department is available at http://www.pol.gu.se The Department of Political Science is now seeking a Research Assistant for the research project "The Local Quality of Government (Lo-QoG) dataset: A hub for local societal indicators across Europe" / (Local data across Europe: a platform with local indicators for corruption risks and societal phenomena) This is a temporary position at 100% full-time for 6 months. Job Responsibilities As a database manager, you will work on the next phase of the LoQoG project together with the data team. The focus is on collecting and preparing data at the municipal level in EU member states. The main objective is to integrate statistical data with previously collected geographic data to compile a comprehensive database. Your responsibilities: Identify and collect municipal-level data across various subject areas from actors such as national statistical offices and European databases, to be integrated with existing geographic data. Reconcile results with legislative documents and official registers, and verify licensing requirements for various data sources. Communicate with national authorities and data providers to obtain missing information or clarify questions regarding data quality. Establish technical documentation (metadata) and prepare materials for reports and presentations for the project's stakeholders. You will be part of the department's research support team, which consists of just over twenty people who contribute to the department's various research projects. The research support team holds regular brief meetings. Qualifications We are seeking a candidate with at least a bachelor's degree in political science or a related field. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated person with an interest in political science and data management. The position requires basic knowledge of quantitative methods and data handling. It is an advantage if you have experience with large-scale data collection projects, knowledge of R and/or Python, and experience working with spatial data (geodata), as the project involves the integration of geospatial data and large statistical datasets. The role requires you to be solution-oriented, proactive, and thorough. You need to be able to identify and correct discrepancies in large datasets independently. We believe you have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, while maintaining a research-focused mindset. A structured and meticulous approach to data documentation and reporting is essential for the role. We are looking for someone with excellent English skills, both spoken and written. Additional language skills in European languages are highly desirable. Employment This is a temporary position for 6 months at 100% full-time.
