Do you want to use AI and machine learning to help combat financial crime? The Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) is seeking an experienced Data Scientist / ML Engineer who wants to be part of developing AI and ML-based services for advanced analysis within criminal investigation. You will work with complex information sets and develop solutions that provide investigators with better analytical support, reduce manual work, and enable faster identification of relevant connections and patterns. About the Role You will work in an agile development team that builds AI and ML capabilities for Skatteverket's criminal investigation operations. A central part of the work involves developing solutions for financial analysis, where large and complex information sets need to be structured, analyzed, and made usable for crime investigators. This may include identifying patterns and anomalies, structuring and classifying information, finding connections between different information sets, and developing AI-based analytical services that help users process large amounts of material. You will work through the entire AI/ML lifecycle – from exploratory data analysis and model development to evaluation, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and further development. The work may involve traditional machine learning, NLP, and generative AI as well as combinations of different techniques depending on the problem to be solved. Since the solutions are used in an operation with high demands on information security, traceability, and legal integrity, robust and explainable solutions are an important part of the development. You will work closely with subject matter experts, developers, and other AI specialists. Together you will transform the organization's needs into technical solutions and continuously evaluate how well models and AI services perform in practice. As part of a specialist team, you will have significant influence over technology choices, architecture, working methods, and how our future AI/ML services are designed. It is important to us that you maintain balance between work and leisure, and we offer flexible working hours and the opportunity to work partially from home. You receive one wellness hour per week and a wellness allowance. You will be part of a section with approximately 30 employees and consultants in our large national IT department, located in Gothenburg. About You To perform well and thrive at Skatteverket, you need to be attentive, think innovatively, and take responsibility. Good judgment and understanding of legal integrity and security are important in this work. You should also comply with our employee policy. In this role, you should: - have good collaboration skills, be helpful, and have a good demeanor - have the ability and willingness to learn new things, be flexible and open to change - have strong problem-solving skills, see patterns, and be able to set boundaries - express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and have the ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and understandable way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You should also have: - relevant higher education in, for example, AI, machine learning, computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent competence that we deem equivalent - at least three years of current and relevant experience working in Data Science, Machine Learning Engineering, or a corresponding field, and very good knowledge of Python - practical experience developing and evaluating machine learning models and experience working with large and complex data sets - experience in one or more of the areas of natural language processing, generative AI, information extraction, or other modern AI/ML techniques. It is also desirable if you have experience in financial analysis, transaction data, anomaly detection, or other types of advanced data analysis. It is also desirable to have experience developing AI solutions in environments with high demands on information security, traceability, and control. Good to Know The employment is permanent and may begin with a six-month probationary period. Employment with us may involve placement in a security clearance class. A security vetting with background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment.
