We are now looking for a Data Engineer who wants to work with large datasets, complex data flows, and modern technology in a Databricks-based environment. What you become a part of You will join the KRS team (Customer Accounting System) which is responsible for the systems and data solutions used to measure, analyze, and track ridership in public transportation. The team's work is business-critical for Västtrafik and forms the foundation for one of the company's most important key metrics - ridership! Behind the solution lies an extensive data flow where information from sensors on buses and trams is collected, quality assured, and processed to provide as accurate a picture as possible of public transportation ridership. KRS is one of four teams within BI & Data Analytics at Västtrafik. The teams work toward a common vision and product strategy with close collaboration, shared forums, and active knowledge exchange between colleagues. Role Description As a Data Engineer, you will combine development, analysis, and enhancement of business-critical data solutions. The work spans the entire chain - from data collection and processing to analysis, monitoring, and improvement of existing solutions. The role suits you if you thrive working hands-on with development. A large part of your day revolves around code development in Databricks, primarily with Python/PySpark and SQL, to manage and enhance business-critical data flows. You will work in a complex environment with large datasets, near real-time flows, and many dependencies between systems, integrations, and external vendors. The team is characterized by close collaboration where colleagues support each other, share knowledge, and take joint responsibility for delivery. Here you will have the opportunity to: Develop, test, and enhance solutions related to the customer accounting system Build and maintain data flows for large amounts of ridership data Work with data modeling and data structuring Ensure quality, robustness, and performance in data solutions Improve, optimize, and simplify existing solutions and processes Technical Environment The team works in a modern Databricks-based data platform where large amounts of ridership data are collected, processed, and made available for analysis and monitoring. The environment is built on Data Lake solutions and includes development of data flows, integrations, data models, and analytical solutions. The technology stack primarily consists of: Databricks, SQL (T-SQL and Spark SQL) Python/PySpark Power BI & DAX Your Profile We believe you thrive in a role where you can combine technical depth with analysis and business understanding. Qualifications: Post-secondary education in computer science, data engineering, IT, or equivalent competence through work experience Several years of experience working in data engineering, systems development, or similar field Very good knowledge of Python/PySpark and SQL Experience working in complex IT environments with many integrations and dependencies Fluent Swedish in speech and writing It is particularly interesting if you also have experience with: Modern data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or Snowflake Data modeling, data warehousing, and performance optimization Power BI and DAX Near real-time systems, sensor data, or other data-intensive environments Complex data flows where information is processed and made available from various sources, for example in traffic, industry, energy, or similar operations Västtrafik as a Workplace At Västtrafik, you are part of influencing people's everyday lives and contributing to a more sustainable society.
