We're now looking for a Data Engineer who wants to work with large datasets, complex data flows, and modern technology in a Databricks-based environment. What you'll be part of You'll join the KRS team (Customer Counting System), which is responsible for the systems and data solutions used to measure, analyze, and monitor ridership in public transportation. The team's work is business-critical for Västtrafik and forms the foundation of one of the company's most important metrics - ridership! Behind the solution is an extensive data flow where information from sensors on buses and trams is collected, quality-assured, and processed to provide an accurate picture of ridership in public transportation. KRS is one of four teams within BI & Data Analytics at Västtrafik. The teams work toward a common vision and product strategy with close collaboration, shared forums, and active knowledge sharing between colleagues. <img src="https://sae3ndp007.blob.core.windows.net/swe/e18702da-b087-4eff-af2d-1c1599d01f66.jpg"> Role Description As a Data Engineer, you'll combine development, analysis, and further development of business-critical data solutions. The work spans the entire chain - from data collection and processing to analysis, monitoring, and improvement of existing solutions. The role suits you if you thrive working hands-on with development. A large part of your day revolves around code development in Databricks, primarily with Python/PySpark and SQL, to manage and further develop business-critical data flows. You'll work in a complex environment with large datasets, near-real-time flows, and many interdependencies between systems, integrations, and external vendors. The team is characterized by close collaboration where colleagues support each other, share knowledge, and take shared responsibility for delivery. Here you'll have the opportunity to: Develop, test, and further develop solutions related to the customer counting system Build and maintain data flows for large amounts of ridership data Work with data modeling and data structuring Ensure quality, robustness, and performance in data solutions Improve, optimize, and simplify existing solutions and processes Technical Environment The team works in a modern Databricks-based data platform where large amounts of ridership data is collected, processed, and made available for analysis and monitoring. The environment is based on Data Lake solutions and includes development of data flows, integrations, data models, and analysis solutions. The tech stack consists primarily of: Databricks, SQL (T-SQL and Spark SQL) Python/PySpark Power BI & DAX Your Profile We believe you thrive in a role where you can combine technical depth with analysis and business understanding. Qualifications: Post-secondary education in computer science, data engineering, IT, or equivalent competence through work experience Several years of experience working in data engineering, systems development, or a similar field Very strong knowledge of Python/PySpark and SQL Experience working in complex IT environments with many integrations and dependencies Fluent Swedish, spoken and written It's especially interesting if you also have experience with: Modern data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or Snowflake Data modeling, data warehouses, and performance optimization Power BI and DAX Near-real-time systems, sensor data, or other data-intensive environments Complex data flows where information is processed and made available from various sources, such as in traffic, industry, energy, or similar operations Västtrafik as a Workplace At Västtrafik, you help shape people's daily lives and contribute to a more sustainable society.
