We are now seeking a head for the Unit for Social Law 2.
About the role
As a unit head, you will lead the work at the Unit for Social Law 2, one of two units responsible for legal support, regulatory development and legal governance within the field of social law. The unit is responsible for, among other things, legal matters related to case handling and documentation, the social services' processing of personal data, welfare technology, economic assistance, disability services, elderly care, harmful use and addiction, and the social services' crisis preparedness.
You will lead a group of qualified lawyers who provide legal support to other parts of the National Board of Health and Welfare on social law matters within various government assignments and other projects. The unit also has primary responsibility for government assignments within its areas, and these projects are managed by unit staff.
In this role, you have overall responsibility for the unit's work in developing and managing regulations and general guidelines within the social services field. The unit also produces information sheets and handbooks, responds to consultations, and prepares statements for courts, the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO) or other authorities.
The role also offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of future legal work in the public sector. Digitalization, AI support and new forms of knowledge sharing are gradually changing how legal support and regulatory development are conducted. As a head, you will have an important role in developing working methods and competencies to meet these changes.
Your responsibilities as a head
You are responsible for operations, staff, budget and results. Together with your staff and fellow managers, you drive the operations forward by formulating goals, creating direction and making clear priorities.
An important part of the assignment is to follow legal developments within the unit's areas and ensure that the authority has appropriate legal support. You work towards good cooperation within the organization and contribute to making legal expertise valuable to the business.
You report to the department head and are part of the Legal Department's management group. Together with other managers, you contribute to a holistic perspective and to developing operations based on our mission and goals.
The role also includes cooperation with other authorities and external actors as well as representing the National Board of Health and Welfare in various contexts.

We are looking for someone who has
a law degree or equivalent
management experience with responsibility for operations, budget, personnel and results
several years of experience working in a state authority or other public sector organization
experience leading legal operations
very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish

experience leading change and development work in a knowledge organization
experience with strategic work in a management group
Good to know
The employment is a permanent full-time position beginning with a six-month probationary period. The position is located at Västerbroplan in Stockholm, but during spring 2027 we are moving to Solna strand. You have discretionary working hours and arrange these in consultation with your manager. Your job title will be unit head and your placement is in the Legal Department.
