The School of Drama and Music conducts education in music and performing arts as well as research in artistic and pedagogical practices. We are now seeking an Assistant Professor in Musical Realization with a focus on improvisation and/or composition. Research in this field examines questions about music and sound creation, musical practice, artistic processes, performance, listening, materiality, technology, notation, corporeality, interpretation, interplay, and music's relationship to societal and cultural contexts. For this position, the focus is on improvisational and/or compositional practices in a broad sense. The area may include improvisation rooted in, for example, Nordic jazz tradition, free improvisation, electronic music, or other experimental or tradition-based forms of musical expression. It may also include composition with emphasis on, for example, electroacoustic music, sound art, music and sound production, live electronics, generative or interactive systems, digital instruments, and other artistic methods for music and sound creation. We welcome applicants with primary grounding in improvisation, composition, or at the intersection of these areas. Responsibilities The Assistant Professor shall conduct and develop research in musical realization, with main grounding in improvisation, composition, or at the intersection of these areas. Responsibilities include formulating and implementing artistic research projects, documenting, critically reflecting on and communicating research processes and results in relevant artistic and academic formats, and actively seeking external research funding. The employee is expected to initiate and participate in national and international collaborations and actively participate in the institution's research environment. Teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and advanced levels, and when relevant, at the doctoral level, are included. Teaching will occur within the field of musical realization with primary focus on the competence profile the employee possesses. The employee is expected to contribute to the development of educational content and forms and to a close and critically reflected relationship between artistic practice, research, and teaching. Responsibilities also include collaboration with the professional music and cultural sector, participation in the institution's collegial work, and administrative tasks. Research comprises at least 50% of the responsibilities. Responsibilities and tasks may change over time.
