Do you want to be part of an internationally leading and broad research environment in physics and mathematics? We are now seeking an associate professor who wants to develop and strengthen our research and education in quantum information theory at the international research frontier. The position is based within the research program for Quantum Matter Theory. Together with the Materials Theory program, we offer a world-leading research environment with interests ranging from strongly correlated and topological quantum states in matter and theoretical aspects of quantum information theory to first-principles calculations of electronic structure and solutions for green energy. The position is also connected to the Center for Geometry and Physics, an interdisciplinary research center aiming to develop fundamental knowledge in mathematics and theoretical physics, both within and at the intersection of geometry and physics. The center is a center of excellence funded by the Swedish Research Council and is jointly administered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Mathematics. The Quantum Matter Theory research program and the Center for Geometry and Physics are now seeking candidates at the associate professor level who can strengthen, develop, or complement our current research activities at the international research frontier. The position is a tenure-track position that provides an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and teacher. Uppsala University's tenure-track system gives associate professors the opportunity to be considered for promotion to full professor. The University offers support in several areas, such as scientific and pedagogical development, leadership development, and support regarding patents and innovations. To further support the development of your research activities, a start-up package is included in the position, consisting of one doctoral student and one postdoctoral researcher. Field of Research The field of research encompasses theoretical research in quantum information that strengthens, possibly in a complementary way, existing research activities within the Quantum Matter Theory research program and that has a connection to the Center for Geometry and Physics. The current research activities span several modern areas of physics and mathematical physics. Of particular interest for this position is work in, but not limited to, quantum networks, quantum error correction, quantum correlations, quantum measurement theory, topological and geometric aspects of quantum information theory, and the mathematical foundations of quantum information theory. In summary, we are seeking candidates who can strengthen our research profile in quantum information theory, contribute to its conceptual and mathematical development, and connect with the Center for Geometry and Physics, while also contributing to teaching and supervision in these areas. Responsibilities You will work with: research. Research involves establishing and leading your own research group; publishing research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and presenting them at international conferences; actively applying for and obtaining external research funding from national and international funders within the field and/or through interdisciplinary collaborations. teaching. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students, in both Swedish and English. If you initially cannot teach in Swedish, Swedish language education, with the goal of achieving this competence, will be part of your responsibilities. administration. Participate in the general academic work at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. This includes serving on committees, taking on responsibilities beyond your own research and teaching duties, participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research activities, working on tasks together with colleagues, and helping and providing feedback to colleagues. keeping yourself updated within your field of research and following societal developments that are relevant to your work at Uppsala University. contributing to collaboration with the surrounding society. working together with colleagues to promote a good and healthy work environment. In the selection of qualified applicants, weight will be placed primarily on both scientific and pedagogical competence, with particular emphasis on scientific competence. In addition, administrative competence, leadership competence, and collaboration competence will be considered. Welcome to submit your application by October 5, 2026, UFV-PA 2026/2047.
