HDK-Valand is now seeking an Assistant Professor in Fine Art to become part of the unit of Crafts and Fine Art and connected to the Centre for Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm), which is a joint initiative with our collaborative partner the Royal University of Fine Arts (KKH). Fine Art is typically not governed by functional or commercial requirements that lie outside the artistic practice itself. In addition to bachelor's and master's programs, we share a commitment to independent courses, lifelong learning, continuing education, and research-based education within this subject area. Fine Art is also characterized by the vibrant and broad research culture at HDK-Valand, which encompasses the following clusters: (i) Economies: organization, valuation, and labor; (ii) Materialities and experimental aesthetics; (iii) Environment: ecology and climate challenges; and (iv) Politics, practices, and publics. For the complete job announcement, see Gothenburg University's webpage for open positions https://www.gu.se/jobba-hos-oss/lediga-anstallningar Responsibilities Research responsibilities (50% of total working time) Conduct independent artistic research projects within the center's mandate, in line with one of CAPIm's main themes: (i) Climate imaginaries, (ii) Historical imaginaries, (iii) Democratic imaginaries, and (iv) Technological imaginaries Carry out assigned research tasks under the supervision of Prof. Mick Wilson and, in collaboration with colleagues at the Centre for Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm), contribute to specific research directions tied to the center, including but not limited to work with: (i) Mapping the political imaginary; (ii) The Observatory for Artistic Doctorates; and (iii) Editorial practices and small-scale publishing – their role in artistic research. This work includes tasks such as: Participating in regular on-site colleague meetings Collaborating with colleagues at CAPIm and its broader research community to support activities (e.g., seminars with invited guest researchers, research meetings, and conferences that CAPIm co-organizes) Communicating research and research results to the public through various forms of publication and dissemination (e.g., artistic production, academic journals, academic and public presentations, seminars, workshops, symposiums, dissemination via online media, public viewings, and exhibitions) Maintaining and regularly sharing detailed documentation of all research processes and results Participating in applications for research funding for collaborative projects based on both assigned and self-selected research Contributing to and co-editing joint publications produced within CAPIm Participating in professional development workshops and seminars as needed Teaching responsibilities (50% of total working time) Participating in regular on-site colleague meetings Collaborating with colleagues to implement and develop existing and new courses at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, including courses linked to CAPIm, as needed Contributing to course and student administration processes, as well as report writing, including quality assurance and quality improvement processes and related tasks as needed Collaborating with colleagues to develop innovative educational content and innovative formats based on current research findings Taking on the role of course coordinator as needed Participating in professional development workshops and seminars as needed Responsibilities and tasks may change over time.
