Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Digital Integrated Circuits and Systems
The Department of Electrical and Information Technology at LTH, Lund University, is recruiting an Assistant Professor.
Description of the Workplace
The position is within the Integrated Electronic Systems (IES) division at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology (EIT). IES has a long history of conducting high-quality research and education in integrated circuits (IC) and systems. Research activities include – but are not limited to – wireless communication, signal measurement, energy-efficient computing systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML), which have led to numerous collaborations with industry and other research institutions. Most of our research projects are industry-oriented and applied, and our doctoral students are a sought-after resource in both academia and industry.
The position is linked to the strategic research area in IT and mobile communications, ELLIIT (elliit.se). ELLIIT in Lund is part of the profile area Pillars for AI and Digitalization, and the position aligns with LTH's overarching research strategy. The Department has three competence centers related to circuit design and wireless systems: ClassIC, Nextg2Com, and ACT, which offer a dynamic and collaboration-oriented research environment.
Data systems and chips are the backbone of sustainable digitalization in industry and society. Future wireless systems and AI/ML applications impose strict requirements in terms of performance, energy efficiency, flexibility, and scalability. Energy- and performance-optimized digital circuits and systems are essential to meet these high system-level demands. Therefore, EIT intends to recruit an Assistant Professor specialized in digital IC and system design for, but not limited to, the applications mentioned above.
Subject Area
Electrical Engineering with a focus on Digital Integrated Circuits and Systems.
Specific Subject Description
This position has a particular focus on domain-specific processors, accelerators, multi-chip/chiplet architectures, advanced circuits and systems (VLSI), and/or digital IC implementation. The subject also includes co-optimization of system and circuit design to achieve overall, balanced solutions between, for example, system performance and energy efficiency.
Responsibilities
The position of Assistant Professor is a tenure-track appointment and aims to enable the holder to develop independence as a researcher and educator. The responsibilities consist mainly of research and teaching. Within the scope of this position, the opportunity for five weeks of university pedagogy training will be provided.
Responsibilities include:
Research within the subject area.
Teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels.
Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
Applying for external research funding.
Collaboration with industry and society.
Administration related to the above responsibilities.
Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Professor, applicants must hold a doctoral degree or have attained equivalent scientific competence.
Primarily, applicants should hold a doctoral degree or have attained equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline. However, those who obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
Assessment Criteria
For appointment as an Assistant Professor, the following will form the basis for assessing eligibility:
Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
Pedagogical ability.
Other Requirements
Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
Significant documented research experience (for example, from postdoctoral or doctoral studies) from another university/institution or relevant experience from industry/public sector.
Documented research activities in the design and implementation of digital circuits and systems.
Experience in digital IC design and implementation, computing and processor architecture, and circuit and system design for applications such as wireless systems and/or AI/ML.
The position requires that you comply with U.S. export restrictions (EAR).
Strong collaboration skills, initiative, ability to work independently, and demonstrated interest in leadership.
Additional Merits
Documented experience with national/international research projects.
Documented teaching experience in higher education.
Documented experience supervising students at various levels.
Consideration will also be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen ongoing research, undergraduate education, and innovation within the Department, as well as contribute to its future development.
About the Position
The appointment is limited to 6 years and is a full-time position. The appointment is limited according to 4 Chapter 12a § HF. The purpose of the appointment is to enable the instructor to develop independence as a researcher and establish merit in both scientific and pedagogical areas to meet the requirements for appointment as a Lecturer.
