The Department of Occupational Health, Psychology, and Sports Science is one of three departments in the Academy for Health and Working Life. Within the department, there are master's and doctoral programs in occupational health science, personnel and working life programs with psychology as the main subject, and sports science programs with a focus on health-promoting lifestyle, as well as individual courses and commissioned education.
The Department of Occupational Health, Psychology, and Sports Science is now seeking an Assistant Professor in Occupational Health Science with a Focus on Economics.
An appointment as an assistant professor is a time-limited qualification position of at least four and at most six years according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 12 a. The purpose of the appointment is to provide an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and build qualifications in both scientific and pedagogical areas to meet the requirements for appointment as a professor. Primarily, candidates who obtained their doctorate at most five years before the application deadline are sought.
Research and Education Area
Occupational health science is an interdisciplinary research and education area that studies how work and the work environment affect physical and mental health. The field encompasses both strategies for preventing ill health and approaches for promoting health, resilience, and sustainability for individuals and organizations. The university's research in occupational health science is internationally recognized and has particular strength in the growing area of organizational flexibility for healthy and resilient organizations. In this environment, the assistant professor will integrate economic perspectives with occupational health science, thereby bringing central expertise to both research and education. The role involves developing new knowledge that can help organizations make well-informed decisions regarding investments in work environment and health-promoting initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
The assistant professor will develop and lead research and education in occupational health economics in close collaboration with senior researchers and business partners. The appointment involves planning and conducting research projects, publishing in international scientific journals, developing national and international research collaborations, and contributing to competitive research applications. The role also includes integrating economic perspectives into existing occupational health science courses, developing new courses, and supervising students. The assistant professor will also collaborate with senior researchers and business partners to design a research project for a doctoral student and be actively involved in both recruitment and supervision of this doctoral student.
Proportion of research in the position: approximately 70%; the extent of research may vary over time.
The position is based in Gävle and you are expected to be at the workplace at least three days per week.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate in business administration, economics, health economics, public health, occupational science, or another relevant field, as well as documented experience in analyzing economic outcomes, such as productivity, sick leave, costs, or cost-effectiveness. The applicant must have completed higher education pedagogy training equivalent to at least five weeks of full-time studies or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. Those who do not have five weeks of higher education pedagogy training at the time of employment will be given the opportunity to complete this within two years from the start of employment, as part of the appointment. The applicant must also have strong communication skills in speech and writing in Swedish or English, in both scientific and public contexts.
Meritorious qualifications include documented experience in research on work environment and health, for example, analyses of economic perspectives on physical, organizational, and/or social work environment, links between work environment and health, or research on organizational health-promoting initiatives. It is also meritorious to have strong communication skills in speech and writing in both Swedish and English, experience co-producing research with external parties, and international collaborations.
In evaluating applicants, particular weight is placed on the ability to communicate in speech and writing in Swedish and English, scientific qualifications and publications in international journals, pedagogical training and competence. Other evaluation criteria include documented ability to obtain external research funding as well as personal qualities such as independence, cooperation and leadership skills, initiative, and active participation and presence in the workplace.
