The Swedish Coast Guard is a civilian state authority that monitors Sweden's coast and large lakes around the clock. With our maritime capability, we are a central operational actor in the maritime environment. We have a unique mission within national defense where we have responsibilities within both civil defense and, under certain conditions, military defense. Our mission includes sea surveillance, law enforcement, crime prevention, and environmental preparedness at sea. Description The Swedish Coast Guard is seeking an Assistant Station Commander for the coastal station in Umeå. Ks Umeå is located in Holmsund at the far end of the coastal belt where road E12 ends and the ferry line to Vasa begins. The station's main area of operation is the Bothnian Bay/Bothnian Sea with associated port areas. Unique to Ks Umeå is that we have long supported marine research at Umeå University with the vessel Kbv 181, conducting expeditions at sea approximately once a month together with them within marine ocean environment research. At the station, which is one of the Swedish Coast Guard's largest northern stations, there is currently a station commander and a growing workforce manning the station's many different boats and vessels, operating at sea in all of the Swedish Coast Guard's areas of operation. Duties As Assistant Station Commander, you are expected to assist in planning, leading, and being responsible for the station's operational activities from a holistic perspective, and to ensure that vessels and equipment remain constantly operationally usable. You shall work for and act in accordance with the Swedish Coast Guard's values and management philosophy. As Assistant Station Commander, you are expected to promote coordination and efficient collaboration with other stations, units, and management to achieve set operational goals. The position as Assistant Station Commander includes both supervisory and personnel responsibility. Personnel responsibility includes, among other things, competency planning, responsibility for employees' working environment including systematic workplace environment work and risk assessments, development and salary reviews, equal treatment matters, and difficult and employee support conversations. The Assistant Station Commander also has target, results, and budget responsibility for operations within the scope of assigned tasks and resources. This includes responsibility for internal governance and control within the area of responsibility and operations. The duties also include representing the Swedish Coast Guard in various contexts, monitoring external developments, and collaboration with other authorities and organizations. Other duties are as directed by the Station Commander. Business travel may occur. Qualifications You have post-secondary education with a focus that the employer deems relevant for the position, and at least a few years of current experience from work in the public sector/public administration. You have great interest in personnel, economic, and budget matters. You are goal and results-oriented and strive for a holistic perspective in thought and work. You possess good analytical and administrative ability and are communicative, flexible, and driven. We place great emphasis on your ability to lead and develop both personnel and operations, and you have a stated interest in leadership. You are skilled at motivating employees to good performance, delegating work tasks, and making decisions. You also need to have a high degree of integrity and be structured, engaged, and unpretentious. We assume that you have extensive computer skills and that you express yourself well orally and in writing in both Swedish and English. Since we regularly have close collaboration with our Finnish colleagues, language skills in Finnish are also meriting. Meriting are good knowledge of the Swedish Coast Guard's operations and mission, as well as current work experience from crime prevention and/or emergency services work, and experience in maritime operations.
