Department of Clinical Sciences The Small Animal Department is seeking an assistant head for clinical operations, UDS. Are you a veterinarian or veterinary technician with experience leading and developing clinical operations? We welcome your application! About the Job We are looking for someone who wants to work closely with the department head of the small animal department. As assistant department head, you will share the responsibilities of the department head, such as 24/7 operational responsibility, business planning, personnel responsibility for unit heads, budget work, and budget monitoring. Operations and leadership are characterized by adapting operations to the clinic's capacity to balance the work environment for employees. We are committed to operations where everyone feels they can contribute based on their conditions and receive support for development aligned with operational needs. Work is conducted in collaboration with unit heads and in close cooperation with academic staff within the department. We expect you to participate in clinical work and also work at inconvenient times with shared responsibility for operations, staffing planning, and clinical activities with the other management group. Together with other managers and staff within the small animal department, you contribute to creating a good work environment and a good social, study, and educational environment for staff and students, where continuous development and improvement is a given. Since animal hospital operations are conducted in a university setting, which includes research and basic training of veterinary and veterinary technician students, it is important that you can view operations from multiple perspectives. Specialist training at both Swedish and European levels is also conducted at UDS. Animal healthcare must be conducted economically sustainably and is a basic prerequisite for clinical teaching and research. At UDS you will encounter a dynamic environment with clinical challenges at the forefront of veterinary medicine. Currently, development work is underway to integrate the animal hospital with the department's basic education and research mission. We are reviewing the animal hospital's organization and workflows to be able to accept more students, maintain balanced economics, and ensure high-quality care for our patients. You will work to create the future of animal healthcare and educate the veterinarians and veterinary technicians of tomorrow. Your Background We are looking for someone who is a licensed veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician with experience in animal healthcare. You have documented leadership experience and previous experience leading and developing clinical operations. Since UDS is a university animal hospital and clinical animal healthcare is a basic prerequisite for clinical training of veterinary and veterinary technician students, specialist training, and research, experience in education and research is meritorious. Experience in change management is also meritorious. To succeed and thrive in the role of assistant department head, we are looking for someone who practices trust-based leadership with the ability to create security, engagement, and confidence among employees. As a person, you are secure in yourself, stable, and have self-awareness. You are a solution-oriented leader who sees development opportunities instead of obstacles and has the ability to remain motivated and effective amid changing circumstances. You want to understand others' needs and perspectives and share your knowledge because you see that it creates the best conditions for operations. Your ability and willingness to develop and maintain cooperation with relevant parties is an important factor. It is also important that you can view operations from a commercial perspective and are customer-oriented. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
