Bioinformatics and Data Centre (BDC) is the unit within Core Facilities at the University of Gothenburg (www.cf.gu.se) that provides specialized expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to research groups at the University of Gothenburg and to development projects at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. BDC is also part of Science for Life Laboratory Clinical Genomics platform, a national resource consisting of 100+ experts that promotes clinically-oriented research at the country's educational institutions and supports method development and implementation of new diagnostic methods in healthcare. We are seeking a skilled bioinformatician specialized in rare diseases or cancer genomics to join the team at Bioinformatics and Data Centre (University of Gothenburg). You will contribute your expertise in sequence analysis of genomic NGS datasets and participate in developing entirely new tools and bioinformatic methods both locally and nationally, addressing both clinical and research questions. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply cutting-edge techniques and interact with leading researchers and clinical staff across Sweden. Responsibilities As a bioinformatician at BDC, you will work in various interdisciplinary teams on multiple projects simultaneously. You will develop tools and bioinformatic methods and ensure that new methods are implemented into stable processes for routine deployment. Additionally, teaching and assistance with the courses and workshops the center conducts will be part of your work. Qualifications You must have a master's degree in bioinformatics, molecular biology, or equivalent. Required for the role: At least two years of experience working in a research infrastructure with bioinformatics, genomics, and interpretation of large-scale NGS data. This includes: Good to advanced competence in handling common and specialized bioinformatic tools and software Programming in unix/shell/Python at a good to advanced level Good skills in designing and implementing bioinformatic pipelines Extensive experience with handling and analyzing NGS data with basic to good understanding of their role in biological processes Ability to effectively communicate complete bioinformatic concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences Good ability to independently identify and solve problems during data analysis Good ability to manage and prioritize tasks effectively Proven adaptability to new technologies and active engagement in monitoring field developments Practical experience with Nextflow, snakemake, and Singularity Good knowledge in rare diseases or cancer genomics Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment. Ability to independently analyze and evaluate complex data and deliver data/project reports according to agreed timelines. Work is conducted in both Swedish and English, and you must therefore have good language skills in both speech and writing in both languages. Meritorious qualifications: Good practical knowledge of statistics. Experience with teaching and development of educational materials is considered meritorious. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, as well as good communication and collaboration skills. You can work independently as well as part of a team. You are self-driven and service-oriented with a positive, results-focused, and problem-solving attitude. You have excellent problem-solving skills, not limited to your own area of expertise. Employment These are two full-time temporary positions for one year, placed at Bioinformatics and Data Centre, University of Gothenburg. A probationary period may be applied.
