New projects drive the need
When we meet one of the managers in mechanical design, the picture emerges of an organization in motion, one that is growing both technically and in terms of expertise.
– "We see a strong increase in demand and combined with new marine initiatives, we need to grow," says Björn Johansson, section manager for design.
He points out that several major projects are currently facing new design and further development.
– "It's an exciting mix. Everything from detailed design and modifications to existing systems to completely new marine solutions."
Full scope: from ammunition to advanced marine systems
BAE Systems Bofors works with several technical domains in parallel. All product areas are being scaled up and in the long term, more designers are expected to be needed than today. In projects, work often takes place in smaller groups with two to three designers and a design manager, while larger systems involve completely different resources.
– "This means you quickly get responsibility but also support. Teamwork and project form are absolutely central here," says Björn Johansson.
Technical areas include welding, hydraulics, mechanical subsystems and complex structures. For those who want to specialize, there are great opportunities to develop expertise within a particular path.
Large expansion – but long-term focus
BAE Systems Bofors does not describe the initiative itself as a short-term peak, but as part of longer-term development within the group. In recent years, the investment pace has increased and new system areas have been established.
– "There is a pride in contributing technology that maintains high quality and makes a difference," concludes Björn Johansson.
