Waste Engineer, Temporary Position

About the workplace We are seeking a temporary waste engineer for the Waste Unit within the Department of Technology and Services. The waste engineer role reports to the Waste Manager and involves working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues in the municipality and cooperating municipalities on waste management matters. As a waste engineer, you will help drive and develop waste management in Håbo Municipality together with the cooperating municipalities of Knivsta, Sigtuna, and Upplands-Bro (Waste Cooperation in Mälardalen). Your responsibilities As a waste engineer, you play an important role in developing waste operations, both locally and through cooperation with our partner municipalities. You plan, coordinate, and implement projects and activities that promote increased reuse, waste reduction, and more sustainable resource use. You also work with monitoring, analysis, and development of action plans to ensure operational development and goal achievement. The position has a particular focus on waste-related governance documents such as waste plans, waste regulations, waste tariffs, and technical handbooks. You will participate in coordinating, developing, monitoring, revising, and driving implementation of these governance documents. You will drive the work of translating waste plan goals into practice through projects, coordination groups, and municipality-wide collaborations. The role includes leading and participating in working groups in areas such as food waste, procurement, reuse, littering, and source separation. Additionally, environmental monitoring, tracking of legislation and industry developments, operational development, and project management are included. The role also involves contact with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders through information and dialogue initiatives. The position includes, among other things, the following responsibilities: initiate and drive various development projects covering the entire waste chain and linked to the strategic waste plan conduct outreach activities, communicate with municipal residents, businesses, and municipal operations about measures required to achieve goals and thus a more sustainable and resource-efficient society in the waste sector conduct investigations within the waste sector work with associations, businesses, and other stakeholders related to waste prevention efforts, such as organizing clothing swap events and litter cleanup days facilitate working groups together with other cooperating municipalities participate in networks for waste engineers participate in the work of revising governance documents in the waste sector contribute knowledge within the waste sector to the unit and cooperating municipalities Other work tasks within operations may be included as needed. Qualifications We seek someone with a strong interest in waste management. The work requires that you are independent and well-organized. You will have multiple contact points and therefore must be outgoing and collaborative both internally and externally. Additionally, you are committed, service-oriented, and have good communication skills with both residents and colleagues. Your work will take place in close cooperation with our partner municipalities Knivsta, Sigtuna, and Upplands-Bro, as well as with consultants. We seek applicants with higher education or university degree in environmental studies or other education that the employer finds relevant. Valid driver's license (Class B) Merits It is meritious if you have experience with tasks as described above and have worked in a politically governed organization. It is an advantage if you have worked with environmental and waste legislation. We seek someone who You have strong planning abilities where you structure and drive your projects. You enjoy managing your work and working independently, but you also collaborate easily. You are comfortable giving presentations, have good computer skills, and excellent ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish. To thrive and succeed in the role, you need to be skilled at bringing people along, be pedagogical and persistent. It is important that you have an interest in actively contributing to operational improvements and have the ability to see the bigger picture. This is a temporary position but may convert to a permanent employment depending on operational needs.
