Why should you do your medical residency in Jämtland Härjedalen? Here you can combine a well-structured medical residency program with a diverse social life. You will join a resident group that has input on the training content and strong camaraderie both inside and outside of work. The center of care in Region Jämtland Härjedalen is located at the hospital in Östersund. Jämtland County is large in area but sparsely populated. This means the hospital is relatively small in terms of staff but large in specialized expertise. Here, the benefits of a smaller hospital are combined with the versatility of a larger one. As a medical resident, you will care for all types of patients. The hospital is centrally located, within walking or cycling distance if you choose to live in town. The often great distances require a well-developed primary care system with health centers throughout the county. With distances of up to 30 miles to the hospital, it is not always feasible to refer patients to the hospital. So, to answer the question in the heading: We believe you would thrive in Region Jämtland Härjedalen and get a strong start to your medical career with many opportunities for an excellent work-life balance regardless of your interests. You will receive broad training and quickly become part of the team at your clinic placement; a residency supervisor will follow you throughout your entire training. 13 position(s). JOB DUTIES We are now recruiting medical residents with start dates of 2027-02-22 or alternatively 2026-05-24. Your residency with us involves training at our county hospital in Östersund, a complete and well-equipped hospital. We have a well-developed primary care system and the general medicine portion is conducted at one of our health centers in the county. We offer: • 21-month blocks • a comprehensive introduction week at the start of employment • clinic-specific orientation before each block starts with clear focus on the resident role and acute care • a joint trauma day during the surgical block • two main supervisors who follow you throughout your residency • joint training days once/month (10 times/year) for the entire resident group including group supervision, lectures and seminars. The day ends with a workplace meeting (APT) • regular follow-up and evaluation throughout the residency • training budget of up to 16,000 SEK with possibility for additional funding for primary care placement in rural areas • opportunity for an elective week during the surgical block for observation in ear, eye, gynecology or radiology • observation at an elective clinic for six days during the primary care placement • primary care seminar in residential format for three days The blocks include: • 6 months of internal medicine specialties, including shorter placements in infectious diseases and pediatrics • 6 months of surgical specialties (surgery, anesthesia and orthopedics) • 3 months of psychiatry • 6 months of general medicine You develop your clinical skills as a physician by meeting many patients. During your service, you work day, evening and night shifts. Sometimes you work night shifts together with a licensed colleague, but independent shifts can occur. This is after you have had supervised service in the emergency department. On-call backup support is available. It is important that you are prepared for and feel comfortable potentially facing this responsibility if you apply for a residency position in our region. QUALIFICATIONS Medical degree by the start of residency or alternatively a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare regarding eligibility for residency and knowledge of Swedish corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe scale. Employment form: Fixed-term employment. ABOUT YOU: In our selection, we make a balanced assessment of formal qualifications, personal profile, interview and references. We consider it a merit if you have had an associate physician temporary position. An associate physician temporary position or student placements in our region can be meritorious but is absolutely not a requirement. We are looking for someone who is stable and confident in yourself. You have the ability and courage to make decisions based on the information you have (even under time pressure) while understanding when you need to ask for help or advice. You plan, organize and prioritize work efficiently. But you can also reprioritize when circumstances change rapidly. You have both the competence and understanding to work in a patient-safe manner. We also value your ability to collaborate, both interprofessionally within different teams and in close cooperation with the patient, which is an important part of the resident physician's role in our region. INTERVIEW: Interview days October 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and possibly 12. NOTE: If you are offered an interview, you will receive a digital invitation after the application deadline where you can book an interview time that works for you. Check your spam folder so that any invitation does not end up there. SYLF may invite you if you are offered an interview to a digital information meeting. As an employee, you have access to a gym/training facility at the hospital. Our staff association offers many enjoyable activities. Once you have been offered a residency position, you have the opportunity to apply for housing through Landstingsbostäder. A resident comedy show is staged every year by the resident physicians. Our goal is to recruit physicians from a long-term workforce supply perspective, i.e., to ensure the region can meet its future specialist physician needs. REGARDING YOUR APPLICATION: We expect you to fill in all information in the application form as this information is used to make an equivalent first assessment of all applicants (i.e., do not attach CV and cover letter only as attachments). We want you to explain why you are applying for a residency in Region Jämtland Härjedalen. We request contact information (phone and email) for at least two references, preferably an experienced physician you have worked with who knows how you function in clinical service plus your current/most recent supervisor. References should be pre-arranged and available for phone calls or digital reference checks during weeks 41 and 42. Attach a copy of your diploma or LADOK transcript through T10 (if you are currently in your final term) and relevant service certificates from healthcare-related employment. Since we review applications on a rolling basis, we appreciate it if you submit your application well in advance - you can then update/complete it yourself up until the final application deadline. Before any employment as a medical resident, we may ask you to provide a copy of a police certificate of good conduct. With a large number of applicants, having your medical degree at the time of application is meritorious - but of course we review and evaluate all applications.
