The Equality Ombudsman (DO) works toward a society free from discrimination and ensures that those who have experienced discrimination receive redress. DO is now seeking an assistant who wants to contribute to this important work. The Legal Unit The primary task of the Legal Unit is to oversee compliance with the discrimination legislation. Oversight work is conducted mainly through investigating reports of discrimination. DO also has the right to represent individuals who have experienced discrimination in legal proceedings. DO's mandate also includes representing individuals who have been disadvantaged in violation of, among other things, parental leave legislation. The Legal Unit currently consists of approximately 50 employees divided into five sections. The legal sections include section heads, unit assistants, case officers, investigators, and litigation managers. The sections are not specialized; they work across all relevant areas of society and with respect to all grounds for discrimination. Your Responsibilities Work as an assistant in the Legal Unit is largely event-driven and based on the various administrative support needs that arise in the unit. The main part of the work involves various administrative tasks related to case management, such as registering and processing reports, decisions, and other documents. Verbal and written communication with the public is also an important part of the work. You will also have contact with other units at DO. Other common tasks include calendar management, booking facilities, taking meeting minutes, and preparing statistical data for the unit's cases. Invoice processing and simple procurement are part of the work. You may also be responsible for the unit's physical or digital storage spaces. You will also participate in other tasks within the unit, such as booking facilities for events or organizing the unit's celebrations. As a unit assistant, you will be part of an assistant team that collectively provides administrative support to the entire unit, the unit head, and the section heads. Work is coordinated by an administrative coordinator. In your role, you are responsible for keeping your knowledge of the unit's administrative procedures up to date. You will also participate in developing the unit and its administrative processes. Qualifications We are looking for someone with - upper secondary education or equivalent qualification - a couple of years of current work experience handling cases or matters at a government agency or court, or alternatively a couple of years of other current work experience that DO considers equivalent - very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written - very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite. You should have the ability to - work in a structured and thorough manner - collaborate and build good relationships - be service-minded, flexible, and humble - be solution-oriented and responsive to the unit's needs - switch between and prioritize different tasks - independently initiate and advance work tasks - act with good judgment and professionalism. Meritorious experience includes - experience working with Evolution - experience handling requests for public access to documents - experience extracting and compiling statistics - good knowledge of English. Great weight will be placed on personal qualities. This is a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. We also provide advice and other assistance to help those who have experienced discrimination exercise their rights.
