We are now seeking a detention officer for the Linköping local police district, which is part of Östergötland police district, on a temporary contract from 9/7 through the end of the year with possible extension. Job Duties Work in detention is conducted under the direction of a station commander and in close cooperation with other operations at the local police district. As a detention officer, you will handle and meet individuals who have been deprived of their liberty for various reasons. Deprivation of liberty may occur for the purpose of investigating crimes, but can also involve brief detention due to intoxication or disturbance of public order. The assignment includes administrative tasks such as documentation of detention and supervision, as well as more hands-on duties such as assisting intervention operations with deportations or various forms of sample collection, as well as DNA profiling, fingerprinting, and photographing the detained person. It also includes assisting the local police district with other administrative work tasks. Work pace varies over time and depends on how many people are held in detention. The work is conducted around the clock, seven days a week. The work requires a high standard of professional conduct and an approach characterized by respect for everyone's equal worth. You must also have good health and physical capabilities as the work requires you to act physically in certain situations. The work is conducted around the clock, every day of the year, which means irregular working hours including day/evening/night shifts, both weekdays and weekends. You will undergo introduction and training to become qualified to work as a detention officer. Work may occur at police stations other than the one you are employed at. Qualifications This is an opportunity for you who have: • Upper secondary school diploma or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience deemed relevant by the employer • Category B driver's license • Good data skills • Strong ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish • Good ability to express yourself, primarily in speech and understanding, in English Merits for the Position: • Previous experience working with people in vulnerable situations from, for example, the Police Authority, Prison and Probation Service, social services, healthcare, or psychiatry and/or experience in service work involving extensive customer contact deemed relevant by the employer • Current work experience involving personal meetings deemed relevant by the employer • Basic understanding of legal terminology acquired through education or work experience • Language skills other than Swedish or English deemed relevant by the employer where you can use the language in your professional practice • Experience working as a detention officer or similar • Experience with administrative work tasks such as documentation Personal Qualities The job duties require that you have the ability to make responsible and sound individual assessments. You will meet people who are suffering both mentally and physically, so it is important that you are professional in your conduct, regardless of the reason for deprivation of liberty. The work can at times be stressful, which requires that you can maintain good prioritization skills and act rationally and professionally even under pressure. The work is also physically demanding, which requires that you have good physical fitness. We would like you to be empathetic and understanding, but you should also be able to set boundaries and follow decisions. You have high service awareness and the ability to build good relationships with both the public and colleagues. It is also important that you are thorough, flexible, and enjoy working in an environment where you handle multiple different tasks simultaneously. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
