NAISS, the national academic infrastructure for supercomputers in Sweden, provides large-scale computing resources, storage, and data services for academic users. NAISS is a center-based organization hosted by Linköping University and has 12 partner universities throughout Sweden. For more information about the position https://liu.se/jobba-pa-liu/lediga-jobb/29608 Your responsibilities As an Application Expert for AI Infrastructure, you will join the team developing the technical software environment for training, evaluation, and operation of the next generation of open language models. You will be responsible for the software infrastructure required to efficiently develop, train, test, and deploy models with hundreds of billions of parameters on some of Europe's most advanced supercomputer systems. The work encompasses distributed training environments and container platforms through performance optimization and automation of large-scale workflows. A central part of your work is to develop, configure, and optimize software stacks for distributed training, inference, and evaluation of large language models. You will work with modern AI frameworks and develop reproducible, container-based environments for training and evaluation, while ensuring that models can run robustly, efficiently, and reproducibly on thousands of GPUs. You will analyze and eliminate bottlenecks in computation, communication, and storage, optimize GPU utilization, parallelization, and I/O performance, and develop solutions for monitoring, logging, debugging, and restarting long-running training jobs. You will also contribute to the development of automated workflows for training, model management, and evaluation. You will serve as the technical link between AI engineers, researchers, system developers, and the NAISS operations organization. Together, you will develop the national AI infrastructure that makes it possible to train and evaluate some of Europe's most advanced open language models. The role involves close collaboration with international research projects, hardware vendors, and developers of leading AI frameworks, providing excellent opportunities to influence the future technical platforms for large-scale artificial intelligence. Your qualifications Requirements for the position: Advanced degree in computer science, data science, engineering physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another relevant field, or equivalent documented experience. Very strong programming skills in Python and good knowledge of Linux and modern software development. Experience with distributed systems, high-performance computing (HPC), cloud infrastructure, or other large-scale computing environments. Experience with container-based environments and automation of technical workflows. Good collaboration skills and ability to work independently. Very strong ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.
