The Culture Administration works for a free, rich and strong cultural life throughout Western Gothia. Together with municipalities, civil society and other actors, we promote, support and develop the region's cultural life. We also provide administrative support to the region's cultural policy bodies: the Culture Committee and the Board for Cultural Development. Read more at vgregion.se/kulturförvaltningen. To carry out our mission in art, culture, nature and cultural heritage, the core operations have two departments: Art and Culture, and Nature and Cultural Heritage, with each department divided into several units. The Nature and Cultural Heritage department operates six museums and attractions. To coordinate cross-cutting issues across the entire administration, we work in a matrix structure, including our work with municipalities, children and youth, collections management, and Agenda 2030. Description At the Museum of Medical History, you can learn how views on illness and health have changed over time. Revolutionary discoveries have led to both progress and setbacks. Science has stood against culture and tradition. Ideas and ideals have inspired, but also hindered medical development. The museum's core exhibition Fire and Blood depicts Gothenburg's medical history over 400 years. From the first hospitals through revolutionary medical breakthroughs to the expansive building projects of the post-war era. Personal stories and life destinies, together with unique objects, give visitors insight into different eras' views of humanity, treatment methods and living conditions. The collections consist of instruments, equipment, furniture, art, textiles and more from the 1700s onwards with a concentration on the early 1900s. The Museum of Medical History (MHM) has an extensive backlog in terms of its object collection documentation. The collections contain an estimated 50,000 objects, of which only 6,800 are registered. During 2026, the transition to the collections management system Primus is underway, moving from physical card catalog and local Access database. As part of this process, a collections review must be conducted, including organization and deaccessioning of the museum's collections. We are now seeking two collections registrars for a project led by the museum's conservator who also has collections management responsibility. The project consists of a collections review, which includes both practical and administrative work with museum objects. The tasks are varied with work both in an external storage facility and on-site at the museum where the two collections registrars will work together. The work can be physically demanding as heavy lifting and limited accessibility may occur. The Museum of Medical History's collections have a rich variety in terms of materials and object categories - from technical apparatus, medical equipment, textiles and everyday objects to tools and instruments. Responsibilities - Identify and inventory objects - Handle and move objects as needed - Document objects with text and photographs - Register objects and work in the museum's collections management system Primus - Research the individual objects regarding provenance, use and purpose, etc. - In consultation with the conservator, compile documentation for decisions to accession/deaccession according to existing procedures Qualifications We are looking for someone with academic education in cultural history and material cultural heritage or other relevant education or professional experience, such as working as a collections registrar. You have theoretical knowledge and documented experience of practical work with cultural history collections, including object handling, collections management and digital object databases. You must have practical experience handling museum objects, good knowledge of materials and practical skills. You must have documented good knowledge of Swedish both spoken and written. It is merits to have previous experience with collections reviews and experience working with the collections management systems Primus and Spectrum. Personal Competencies You are thorough and enjoy creating structure in both physical and digital environments. You are practically minded and have the ability to work with physical handling, moving and organizing objects in a safe and orderly manner. The work can be physically demanding. As a person, you should be organized, thorough and responsible with the ability to work independently. You must have good collaboration skills and be a good team player. Terms The employment is a 6-month project contract with possible extension (6 months). Interviews will be held between September 15-18.
