Job Description The School of Design is seeking two teaching assistants for work during fall semester 2026 and spring semester 2027, one with a focus on media production for social media and one with a focus on workshop operations. The positions are 10% of full-time with start in October 2026 or by agreement. The application deadline is September 13, 2026. Job Responsibilities Media production work consists of you, in collaboration with the communicator: - ensuring order and organization in the photo studio - managing the lending of photography equipment - providing support to communicators with photography and video production, primarily for social media Workshop work consists of you, in collaboration with technicians/facilities staff: - performing various service and maintenance work. - operating and maintaining digital manufacturing machines (lasers, 3D printers, cutting machines). - checking and operating workshop machines regarding safety devices and functionality. - ensuring order and organization in the workshop facilities. - providing materials to other students. - locking and shutting down operations as needed. - providing support to facilities staff. - instructing other students in various techniques (if time permits). Qualifications We are looking for someone with good collaboration skills who wants to work in close dialogue with the communications and technical teams, has a service-oriented approach and an organized work style. You take responsibility for your tasks, follow agreed procedures, and contribute to a well-functioning and inclusive work and study environment. Applicants for the teaching assistant position must: - Be admitted to a program at basic or advanced level at a university or college (HF 1993:100). - Be enrolled in the Industrial Design Program, year 2 or 3, or in the Master's Program at UID. For media production work, we are looking for someone who: - is interested in media production for social media. Experience with photo and video related to social media is a merit. For workshop work, we are looking for someone who: - is interested in workshop work as described above. It is a merit if you have experience with similar tasks. Selection among applicants will be based on the applicants' qualifications, suitability, and experience with similar tasks. Terms and Conditions As a teaching assistant, you are employed by Umeå University. The employment is 10% of full-time during fall semester 2026 and spring semester 2027 and shall be performed in parallel with studies. Salary is determined according to the current local agreement on remuneration for teaching assistants at Umeå University. The employment starts in October 2026 or by agreement and begins with an introduction and training in your tasks by experienced staff at the School of Design. The work requires continuity and on-site presence during the semester. It is therefore an advantage if you can be available for most of the academic year. Any periods with limited availability, such as internships, can be discussed during the recruitment process.
