Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan, GIH, is Sweden's leading knowledge center for sport, performance development, physical activity, and health. At the Department of Physiology, Nutrition and Biomechanics, we are seeking a research assistant for a research project investigating the effects of antiandrogen treatment and physical exercise in men with prostate cancer.
Work Tasks
The project involves collection and analysis of biological material, including blood as well as muscle and adipose tissue. As a research assistant, you will work practically with sample collection, sample handling, and laboratory analyses, as well as contribute to processing and compilation of research data.
The work tasks include, among other things:
assisting with biopsy and blood sampling and preparing and handling collected biological material
performing biochemical analyses of blood and tissue samples
preparing and conducting immunohistochemical analyses of muscle and adipose tissue
performing mitochondrial function analyses
preparing and quality assuring samples for external analyses
processing, compiling, and documenting collected data and analysis results
Qualifications
Requirements:
You must be admitted to and be an active student in a basic or advanced level education at a Swedish institution of higher learning
At least a bachelor's degree in biomedicine, translational physiology and pharmacology, or equivalent relevant field
Personal Qualities

Merits
Previous experience working in human biological or clinical research projects
Experience with biochemical and molecular biological laboratory methods, particularly ELISA, immunohistochemistry, functional mitochondrial analyses, RNA and protein extraction, and analysis of gene and protein expression, for example with RT-qPCR and Western blotting
Good ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing
Experience with data processing and statistical analysis using relevant software
Duration/Working Hours
The employment is limited-term according to HF 5 kap § 12. The position is 50% of full-time. Start date by agreement, until 31 January 2027 with possibility for extension.
For research assistant positions, employment may be for a maximum of one year at a time, but no more than three years in total. The employee should be a student during the entire employment period.
