About the Position Bildmuseet is one of Sweden's leading art halls for international contemporary art, part of Umeå University, and the public heart of the Artistic Campus, right by the Umeå River. We are now seeking a museum assistant (25%) to staff our reception, art workshops, and exhibitions. The position runs from September 16, 2026 – January 17, 2027, starting September 16 or by agreement. Responsibilities As a museum assistant, you will work as a gallery attendant in Bildmuseet's exhibitions and be responsible for welcoming visitors to the museum. You will staff the exhibition "AI and the Paradox of Agency," where your responsibilities include answering questions, providing information about exhibitions and programs, and delivering service to museum visitors. You will also be responsible for overseeing the displayed artworks. Your duties also include working with specific interactive artworks and assisting visitors with information and guidance. In working with the artworks, you will receive guidance from the artists themselves and Bildmuseet staff. Evening and weekend work occurs. Other tasks within the operation may also be assigned. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a museum assistant, according to Chapter 5, Section 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance, you must be admitted to a program at the basic or advanced level. The position must be completed in parallel with your studies. A registration certificate from Ladok showing studies at the basic or advanced level during fall semester 2026 and spring semester 2027 must be provided no later than when the employment decision is made. The position holder must be a student throughout the entire employment period. We are looking for someone pursuing higher education studies with knowledge of and interest in contemporary art and visual culture, and with experience working with people in service, care, education, or similar roles. As a person, you are ambitious, flexible, and have good collaboration skills. You are service-oriented, pedagogical, and can express yourself well orally in both Swedish and English. Desirable Qualifications Experience as a gallery attendant or in educational work at an art institution and experience conducting guided tours are merits. You are welcome to be studying in one or more of the fields of art, architecture, design, and culture, or alternatively in AI, computer science, and informatics.
