The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering at Luleå University of Technology conducts research and education in mining, construction, and environmental areas. Research and education at the department have a strong experimental and applied profile with several large and well-equipped laboratories. Our activities are quality assured by our engaged professors and lecturers in an exclusive and successful collaboration with industry and the public sector. 70% of our research is externally funded and we have well-developed international collaboration with universities on all continents. We are approximately 400 people with about 50 nationalities, of which 180 are doctoral students and over 50 are professors.
The Division of Mining and Rock Engineering at Luleå University of Technology has a broad focus area and encompasses research activities on fundamental knowledge for applied applications within mining and underground engineering. Education and research in mining and rock engineering at Luleå University of Technology dates back to 1971. In 2011, Swebrec competence center, which focuses on blasting technology, detonation and fragmentation, became part of the rock engineering subject.
Job Responsibilities
As a research assistant, you will be part of the Mining and Rock Engineering division. You will primarily work with Wilhelm Åberg on a research project investigating grouting. Your tasks will mainly consist of participating in grouting mortar laboratory work and independently performing lighter lab tests. Subsequent work involves collecting and compiling data as well as conducting minor analyses.
Qualifications
The student we are seeking should be enrolled in the Civil Engineering program in Civil and Water Engineering and have completed at least 8 terms. You should have knowledge within rock mechanics, infrastructure construction, and design engineering. Knowledge of statistical methods, project work within research projects, and scientific methods is meritorious. Strong skills in both written and spoken Swedish are required as the project work is conducted within the framework of Trafikverket. Terms of Employment
Employment as a research assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5. Only those admitted to education at basic or advanced level may be employed as a research assistant (HF chapter 5 §10).
Hourly Wage/Compensation
Compensation is based on an agreed monthly salary.
Information
The position comprises 50% of full-time, i.e., on average 2.5 days per week for 4 months, from September 1, 2026 to December 1, 2026, or by agreement. Workplace is Luleå.
Work load may vary over time and by agreement, but the aim is to distribute it in a way that is compatible with studies at LTU.
