During 2026/2027, as a lawyer, you can experience the judicial profession within Sweden's Courts – a unique opportunity for new experiences and valuable credentials for your future career! As an associate judge, you will have the opportunity to work as a judge through training, practical work, and with the support of experienced colleagues, and to participate in hearings and proceedings. You will also draft judgments and decisions. A combined judicial internship in both appellate and trial court also gives you the opportunity to experience trial court work, where the core of the work is independent decision-making. The position is a one-year fixed-term employment that begins with at least six months in appellate court followed by service in trial court. Qualifications We are looking for a skilled lawyer with strong communication skills, ability to collaborate, and who inspires confidence. You have excellent ability to express yourself verbally and in writing and have very sound judgment. You have several years of experience in legal areas such as prosecutor, attorney, professor or associate professor in a legal subject, or another legally trained person with many years of experience in qualified legal work. You are analytical and results-oriented, accustomed to independent decision-making, and have the ability to make decisions within a reasonable timeframe and with high quality. You are interested in seeking employment as a full-time judge in the future. Completed notarial service with good references may be an asset. As a basic requirement for judges, an associate judge must be a Swedish citizen. To be considered for employment, you must meet high standards regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. About the Workplace The Court of Appeal in Sundsvall is one of Sweden's four courts of appeal. The court's main task is to review cases appealed from the Administrative Courts in Falun, Härnösand, Umeå, and Luleå. The most common case types are tax cases, social insurance cases, cases under the Social Services Act, confidentiality cases, and procurement cases, as well as various cases concerning coercion against persons. In addition to handling cases, the Court of Appeal has the task of training fiscal advocates and associate judges in the four-year judicial training program. The Court of Appeal has approximately 50 employees. The court is divided into a judicial division, a hearing unit, a case office, and an administrative unit. The administrative unit is shared with the Court of Appeal for Lower Norrland.
