The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department with just over 350 employees, of which 120 are teachers and 120 are doctoral students. About the Role We are looking for an economist who wants to work operationally and strategically in a complex research environment with responsibility for ongoing financial work for one or more departments at the institution. The role involves providing financial information and offering qualified support to department heads regarding financial management, analysis, and follow-up. The role also includes routine tasks in the financial area, which requires a humble work approach and mindset to be successful. In your role as an economist at the department, in addition to providing qualified support to department heads, you are expected to support our researchers regarding project budgeting and reporting to various funding bodies. Together with the financial function, which currently consists of one financial coordinator, four economists, and one financial administrator, you will actively participate in developing the department's financial management and financial processes. You will be part of the department's administrative group and work closely with your colleagues in the financial function. You take independent responsibility for your areas of responsibility but have no problem stepping in to support other areas of the financial function when needed. Main Responsibilities As an economist, you are responsible for: - Preparing budgets, financial statements, forecasts, and analyses at the department level - Ongoing financial accounting - Providing financial support to department heads and researchers - Reporting and accounting to national and international funders in externally financed research projects - Ensuring compliance with regulations (governmental and external) - Development and quality assurance of financial processes and routines Simpler administrative tasks may also occur. Qualifications Formal Requirements - Academic degree in Economics or equivalent competence that the employer deems equivalent - At least 3 years of well-documented professional experience in qualified financial work - Documented experience in budgeting, financial statements, analysis, and forecasting work - Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written - Very good knowledge of Excel and other Office tools - Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial follow-up - Experience working independently with multiple parallel processes - Strong analytical ability and experience presenting decision-making materials Personal Qualities To succeed in this role, you are: - Strategic and analytical with a holistic perspective - Self-driven and confident in your professional role - Structured and manage deadlines effectively - Accustomed to prioritizing tasks based on importance and delivery - Initiative-taking and development-oriented - Pedagogical and communicative with different target groups - Relationship-building and service-oriented - Humble Great importance is placed on personal suitability. Meritorious Qualifications - Experience in financial work within public sector operations, preferably at a university or college - Good knowledge of public sector accounting and regulations - Documented experience with externally financed research - Experience with EU projects and their financial regulations - Experience with financial and payroll systems such as Raindance, Proceedo, Primula, or equivalent About the Employment The position is 100%. Start date October 1, 2026 or by agreement. The employment is permanent; a 6-month probationary period may apply.
