Welcome to Björknäs Adapted Primary and Secondary School Björknäs Adapted Primary and Secondary School serves students with various disabilities. The school has an accessible outdoor area that is shared with our adapted preschool. At our adapted primary school, we have three classes with five to seven students in each class, which enables high staff density and instruction where each child is given the right conditions to develop. We use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), clarifying pedagogy, and digital tools to increase independence among our students. Read more about us here. Your Assignment As a special education teacher, you will be a mentor for a class of five to six students with autism and moderate intellectual disability who primarily study subject areas within adapted primary education. The class is mixed-age and currently consists of students in grades F-2. Over time, instruction may also take place in other classes within our adapted primary and secondary school. Together with colleagues, you are responsible for students' entire school day, which includes instruction, breaks, lunch, and transitions. As a special education teacher, you teach in all subjects except music and physical education. Instruction takes place both individually and in small groups. You are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction based on the curriculum and school laws. You observe, document, and follow up on students' development. The role also includes conducting pedagogical assessments as well as implementing and analyzing screenings and other evaluations. You have a central role in a work team at the primary school, where you lead and mentor several student assistants in special education matters and daily pedagogical work. You work as a team but maintain close contact with the school's student health team, school management, and other work teams. The school employs four additional special education teachers and a special education specialist with overall responsibility. You meet regularly and collaborate on student matters, planning, assessment, pedagogical development, and systematic quality work. You stay updated on current research in special education and share your theoretical knowledge and pedagogical expertise. The role also includes mentorship, development conversations, and ongoing contact with guardians. You lead meetings with students and guardians to inform them about and discuss chosen interventions and collaborate on students' needs with other stakeholders, both within and outside the school. Your Experience For this position, you must have: teacher certification special education teacher or special education specialist degree experience working as a special education teacher experience working at an adapted school experience teaching students on the autism spectrum who study subject areas at an adapted school experience working with children/youth with intellectual disability, mobility impairment, and/or combination of various neurodevelopmental diagnoses experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing. It is meritorious if you also have: special education teacher training with specialization in intellectual disability experience leading student assistants or similar good digital competence with experience using digital educational materials knowledge of and experience working with clarifying pedagogy.
