For multilingual students, their mother tongue is an important resource for both knowledge development and a sense of security in learning. Mother tongue instruction also strengthens Swedish language development and helps achieve the school's goals. We are now seeking a mother tongue teacher in Finnish for Karlstad Municipality! You will become part of the mother tongue unit, where approximately 45 colleagues work together to provide students with the best possible conditions to succeed. Job Responsibilities As a mother tongue teacher, you will plan, deliver, and follow up on instruction and/or study guidance in Finnish for students in primary and secondary school. You will teach according to the curriculum in the mother tongue subject and document students' knowledge development. You will work to promote students' language, knowledge, and identity development by providing them with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing, adapt language to different contexts, and develop an understanding of culture and societal issues related to the language. You will adapt instruction to students' needs, use digital tools in your work, and provide continuous feedback. The role also includes study guidance in collaboration with subject teachers and, when needed, support in communication between school and home. You will collaborate with school staff and contribute to values-based education in accordance with the curriculum. Work is conducted throughout Karlstad Municipality, in both municipal and independent schools at primary and secondary levels. The position may also include distance teaching and requires strong planning skills and flexibility. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: Strong skills in Finnish, both spoken and written, as well as strong skills in Swedish Teacher education with a focus on mother tongue instruction or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent Experience in teaching or working with children and young people Good knowledge of the school's governing documents and the mother tongue curriculum We place great emphasis on personal competencies and are looking for someone who is self-driven and takes responsibility for planning and structuring your work. You are flexible and have the ability to adapt to changing conditions, such as schedule and student composition. You have strong collaboration skills and work well with colleagues, student support services, and parents/guardians. Furthermore, you are relationship-building and establish trusting relationships with students and colleagues. You also have a holistic perspective where you consider the student's complete learning situation and contribute to the school's overall mission. A class B driver's license and access to a car is an advantage, as work is conducted at multiple schools. Positions will be filled pending required decisions being made.
