Mechanical Engineer Safety
Description:
Do you want to work close to the product and influence how advanced technical systems are designed to be safe, robust, and reliable? We are now looking for a mechanical engineer with an interest in safety for a high-tech environment within the defense industry. In this role, you will combine your mechanical engineering interest with a systems perspective and work with products that place extremely high demands on design, strength, and safety. You will become part of an experienced team where you have the opportunity to develop, expand your competence, and work through the entire development chain – from requirements to finished and verified product. Placement can be made in Karlstad or Karlskoga. About the role As a mechanical engineer in safety, you work at the intersection of design, function, and system safety in the development of advanced products, primarily missile systems. The role involves ensuring that technical solutions work safely in practice – both at the component and system level. You are involved throughout the development process, where based on the requirement specification, you analyze how design, material selection, and construction affect product safety. Together with your team, you identify risks associated with mechanical solutions, develop safety requirements, and actively contribute to design decisions to minimize risks from the start. The work also includes participating in tests, verifications, and analyses where you follow up to ensure that the design meets the stated requirements. You work closely with other engineers in areas such as mechanics, strength, electronics, and software, which gives you a broad understanding of how the entire system fits together. This role suits you if you want to work both practically and analytically, and if you want to take a greater overall grasp of how mechanical systems function in complex and safety-critical products. You will receive a structured introduction and support from experienced colleagues, which provides good opportunities to grow into the role and develop further. Your profile We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in technology and who thrives in environments where complex systems, accuracy, and safety are crucial factors. You work methodically, take responsibility for your work, and have a desire to understand both details and the big picture. You appreciate working long-term and following a product through the entire development process – from requirement specification to verified solution. As a person, you are flexible, solution-focused, and have an easy time collaborating in a group. You are comfortable asking for support and taking feedback from more experienced colleagues. The ability to identify risks, see connections, and make well-considered technical assessments is important for success in this role. Mandatory requirements for the position: Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, product development, or equivalent At least 1 year of relevant experience in technical development with requirements management, or equivalent background through thesis work, trainee role, or junior position Basic experience with, or a stated interest in, system and/or product safety Ability and interest in working through the entire development chain – from requirements to verification Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written B-class driver's license Prior to employment, a security clearance and security interview will be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations for security protection. This may impose requirements for certain citizenship. Meritorious for the position: Experience from thesis work or projects involving system safety or product development. Familiarity with safety standards such as MIL-STD 882E or equivalent regulations. Background from defense industry, automotive industry, or other regulated and technology-intensive operations. Experience working in cross-functional and/or project-oriented teams. Our client Our client is a leading company in defense and security with a mission to contribute to safety for societies and nations.
