Description of the Workplace The PhD project will be carried out at Medical Engineering IKVL, with placement at LTH in the ultrasound group located there. The department's other PhD student and the researcher who will also serve as assistant supervisor are also based there. The research group is now seeking a full-time PhD student (100%) to start on September 1, 2026 (or by agreement). Description of PhD Project The work will encompass theoretical and experimental modeling of magnetic nanoparticles' response in a magnetic field. Furthermore, mechanisms for potential therapeutic effects of various nanoparticle forms will be studied, for example through lysosomal rupture. To perform the first demonstration of antibody-directed imaging and potential therapy with magnetomotive ultrasound. Verification will be conducted both on phantoms (test objects) and will include cell studies. Tasks and Responsibilities Work tasks will include: Research within the project described above. The research involves design, planning, and conducting studies as well as developing phantom and cell models and performing measurements on these. Participate in supervision of master's theses. The role also includes traveling and presenting research at scientific conferences and visiting collaborators. Other work tasks within the role may be added. Qualifications For employment, the following are required: A background in technical physics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, medical physics, or equivalent (minimum 240 credits with at least 60 credits at advanced level). Experience with theoretical and experimental modeling as well as signal processing, preferably with applications in biomedical engineering, especially ultrasound technology. Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English. We expect you as a person to be thorough and goal-oriented. Meritorious qualifications include: Knowledge of ultrasound physics, specifically magnetomotive ultrasound. Experience with experimental studies involving antibodies, bacteria, and/or cells. Previous experience giving presentations at conferences. Eligibility Basic eligibility for doctoral level education is held by those who have: completed an advanced level degree, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at advanced level, or in some other way, within or outside the country, acquired essentially corresponding knowledge. Evaluation Criteria Regulations for employment as a PhD student are found in Regulation SFS 1998:80. Only those admitted to doctoral level education can be appointed. In the appointment process, primary consideration shall be given to the degree of ability to benefit from doctoral education. In addition to the obligation to engage in their own doctoral education, the appointee may be required to perform work assignments related to education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the regulation.
