Firefighters for Multiple Locations in Skellefteå Municipality
Description:
10 position(s). Are you ready to become a key person in community safety? We're looking for you to combine your civilian job with a meaningful mission – to be a firefighter on call (RIB). As a RIB firefighter, you're an important part of the rescue service and a source of security for residents in your area. You'll get the opportunity to make a real difference while developing yourself both physically and mentally. Today, approximately 180 people work as firefighters at our RIB stations (on-call rescue personnel) throughout the municipality. But we need more – women and men with diverse backgrounds. Right now we're seeking reinforcements for our RIB stations in: Kåge, Fällfors, Byske, Jörn, Boliden, Skelleftehamn, Bureå, Lövånger, Burträsk, and Bygdsiljum. YOUR ROLE As a firefighter on call, you're employed by the rescue service in Skellefteå Municipality. You participate in emergency responses, exercises, and training – and receive compensation for both active duty time and on-call availability. A RIB unit averages 40–50 calls per year, with each response taking approximately one hour. Availability can vary depending on your life situation – full week on-call is preferred, but there are also options for evening, night, or daytime on-call duty. You'll become part of a local team that works closely together and plays an important role in community safety efforts. YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE To become a RIB firefighter, you need to: Be at least 18 years old Have a valid Class B driver's license Have good physical fitness and be in good health Have good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written Live or work so you can reach the fire station within 5 minutes Pass our recruitment tests: interview, swimming test, fitness test, and medical examination Have your employer's and family's consent You should also enjoy working with people and have a calm, solution-focused approach in high-pressure situations. Training follows MCF's program and consists of several stages, including smoke diving and Class C driver's license. The goal is for you to complete the entire training package within two years. The rescue service in Skellefteå follows MCF's (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) training program. Here's a brief overview of the stages: 1. You complete and pass the recruitment requirements and tests. 2. A 2-week training with MCF, combining self-study with distance and on-site learning, Course 1. 3. A 2-week training in Skellefteå which includes, among other things, smoke diving. 4. After progressing this far in training, you can start participating in an on-call team at your home location and respond to calls. 5. However, training isn't complete – you need to supplement with a 3-week training at one of MCF's training centers, with the nearest located in Luleå and Sundsvall, Course 2. An individual training plan is set for each person. For practical reasons, most participants usually progress through the entire training period together. Obtaining a Class C driver's license (truck license) is also included in the training. We have eleven fire stations and one rescue corps facility distributed throughout the municipality. The largest station is located in central Skellefteå, where our full-time employees work.
